"I'll be out before you know it. Back to irritate you in no time."

"Maybe I want you to keep irritating me"

"Are you sure about this?" Steve asks Bucky as we stand before him, both Steve and I staring skeptically at the cryo container not three feet away from the lab table Bucky sits upon

"Are you sure about this?" Steve asks Bucky as we stand before him, both Steve and I staring skeptically at the cryo container not three feet away from the lab table Bucky sits upon.

Unafraid, Bucky nods assuringly "I can't trust my own mind." My arms folded I try to keep the sadness from my expression as Bucky explains to us, to me for the eighth time "Until they figure out how to get this stuff out of my head I think going back under is the best thing... for everyone." Biting my lip, I divert my gaze out the lab window and over Wakanda's vast secluded fields. Over the years I've left Bucky to find freedom in the public eye and fight a race of evil robots. But this will be different. There will be no messages every second of the day, no phone calls, no voice mails and I can't just jump through space to see him. I know it's selfish for me to want Bucky to not go into cryo but he's become my constant.

Waiting for Steve to say his piece Bucky's attention finally falls to me, both of us stood in front of the capsule. "I'll be out before you know it", Bucky murmurs, his hand reaching up to push my stray hair behind my ear "Back to irritate you in no time."

"Maybe I want you to keep irritating me", I suggest, my voice low and thick with the tears I keep at bay. Sighing I shake my head and plaster a brave smile on my face when I see Bucky's big blue eyes growing sadder "I'll be here when you get out." Reaching up I place my hands either side of Bucky's cheeks, affectionately grazing my thumbs over his cheekbones "I love you Bucky."

A smile finally tugging at his lips, Bucky presses his to mine. It's slow, affectionate. My lips moving against his I can't bring myself to move away when Bucky breaks it regretfully, murmuring "I love you too Adeline." Shoving the tears which are welling in my eyes, I force myself to keep my brave smile on my lips.

Watching Bucky get strapped into the capsule by the lab technicians my eyes trail over his face trying to engrave every inch of his face into my memory. There's no telling how long he's going to be under for, months, years, decades. I might not ever see him again which is why I feel the need to keep my gaze trained on him. Peering over to me as I stand beside Steve, Bucky pulls a comforting smile on his lips before he closes his eyes and allows the glass to close around him. Despite the circumstance Bucky seems at peace with the idea, comfortable with it and completely fearless. Watching the containment carefully I don't allow my smile to drop until I watch a puff of freezing mist shoot through the containment, sending Bucky under until they can pull the Winter Soldier from his mind.
