Caleb carried his wife into the emergency room where the hospital staff quickly rushed to assist him. Amor was pushed her into the maternity ward on a stretcher. The nurses quickly attended to her before the doctor came in to check on her.
' Caleb if anything happens please make sure this baby lives.'
' You and our son will be fine. Just relax and let the doctors and nurses do their work.'
' It hurts babe.'
Caleb used the techniques from the Lamaze classes he attended to soothe her. The doctor walked in and checked on her before calling Caleb outside.
' What happened?'
The doctor asked
' We were having a discussion and she suddenly cried out in pain.'
' A discussion or an argument because her vitals are abnormal and she's in preterm labour. Your son is in danger and due to the severity of her bleeding she's going to need caesarian delivery and blood transfusion.'
Caleb took in all that the doctor said and signed the papers he had handed. When he was done he took a deep breath and walked back into the room with a strained smile. Amor smiled back at him without noticing the stress on his face.
' The nurses said I need to go into the operating theatre. We've lost too much blood to deliver naturally.'
' Yeah the doctor just informed me. '
' I'm scared babe.'
' Don't be, you both will be fine. CJ is our miracle and the good Lord will protect you both.'
He assured her and kissed her forehead before he himself was helped by the nurses to dress for the operating room.
' You stand here and keep her calm.'
The nurses instructed him before they commenced on the procedure. Thirty minutes later their son was removed and the paediatrician quickly attended to him after Caleb had cut his cord. He stood with him as they checked his score, assessed him and identified him.
' The doctor said he's in distress but nothing that can't be helped. So they are taking him to the n.i.c.u for overnight observations. He also said that he's big for his seven months.'
' So he will be fine?'
' Yes baby, our son will be fine.'
Amor breathed a sigh of relief and pulled him down for a kiss which was interrupted by the nurses informing them that she was being transferred back into the ward as they were done.
' We will monitor you over night and if everything is stable the doctor will send you home after three days and it will depend on the condition of the baby if you're discharged home. If he's still not ready to go home, you will be discharged to the lodger mother's ward.'
The nurse explained to them after they enquired as to when she and their son would be discharged home. Caleb held her hand throughout even though he too was in pain. He had this excruciating pain in his stomach and did not want to worry his wife so he kept a brave face and told himself that he would consult when Amor was asleep.
