With Caleb out on a late business meeting, Amor put her children in bed alone. She checked on her son who had slept earlier and once she was comfortable that he was safe and breathing, she headed back downstairs to lock her front door. Only to realise that Caleb had left his keys since he was being driven. She decided to call him.' ....But it's ten thirty and I would like to lock up, shower and go to bed. I won't be comfortable with the house unlock-'
He cut her off on the other end of the phone with assurance that he was not more than twenty minutes away from the house and before she was done showering, he would be home.
' Okay fine.'
She made sure to shut the door and check once again if all her windows were closed before taking her speaker to play music. Amor stopped singing when she thought she heard a noise coming from downstairs. Closing her tap and wrapping a towel around her body before turning down her music, she went to inspect the noise.
' Caleb? Baby? Is that you?'
Amor grabbed on tighter to her towel wishing she had taken a robe instead. She jumped when her front door slammed shut and grabbed the nearest item she could use as a weapon from the closet in the top hallway. An umbrella. Slowly she went down the stairs ready to swing and she almost hit Caleb with the umbrella when she turned the corner of the first six stairs.
' Caleb?!¡ What the hell I almost hit you in the head.'
' What are you doing in the middle of the stairs half naked and dripping wet?'
' I thought I heard a noise. Well at first it felt like someone was watching me but upon inspection, I found nothing. I went back and showered till I heard a noise and came down to inspect. Was it you who made that noise?'
He walked behind her as they went back into the main bedroom and she did not notice him clench his jaw as she explained what had happened. When she turned he was calmer.
' Yeah it was me. I was taking out the trash and hit the bag on the corner table. Sorry I scared you babe.'
' It's fine. So how did the meeting go?'
' It went well. I think we need to beef up the security in this house. '
Amor turned to face him from her vanity mirror with a questioning look on her face. This was arguably the safest neighbourhood and she did not see the need for security.
' Don't look at me like that. It's for your _I mean our safety both our exes have decided to buy houses not far from our home. If that doesn't make you feel unsafe then I don't know what will.'
' I told you I was not comfortable with Rob staying so near to us remember and I suggested an alarm but you said it was unnecessary.'
Caleb put his laptop away and leaned back onto the headboard with his hands behind his head.
' I know what I said and now I've changed my mind. I've already called the security company. They'll be here first thing tomorrow.'
Amor was surprised by his tone but agreed and got into bed.
