song - Sorry by Halsey
~"And so it seems I broke your heart
My ignorance has struck again
I failed to see it from the start
And tore you open 'til the end"~It was once said that life is one large jigsaw puzzle, every single person built and brought into the world to fit around the different missing pieces. Even colors needed to fit into it, spinning around trying to find their place like tinkering with cogs in a wheel. Souls were created to find their destiny in the world, searching and trying until they gave up so that they finally knew where they were supposed to be. Finn liked to believe that the world was a giant puzzle piece, because it always gave him the reassurance that no matter how he seemed to mess everything up, he was supposed to be in this world. But as soon as they started getting closer, he wished that they had their own puzzle to solve, that Millie's missing grooves fit between the pieces of him until they were finally complete. That he was meant to be in her life, and that they were never meant to be apart despite how much they sometimes disagreed with each other. He knew that despite their troubles, nothing had ever felt more right in his life and he didn't want to ever let go of the feeling that everything was falling into place. After seeing her smile and laugh, all he wanted was some kind of sign from the universe that all of this was meant to be.
As he stepped out of his AP Biology class, he waved Sadie goodbye before finding his way to Millie's classroom so that he could take her home. Millie had Chemistry when he was stuck in AP Biology on the other side of the school, and she would wait outside of the classroom until he found her, tapping the floor with an impatient frown on her face. Finn would roll his eyes, making his presence known by slipping his fingers through her own so that she could hold onto his wrist as a guide. But when he found her classroom, she wasn't waiting outside. He stopped still for a moment, trying to calm down the insistent beating of his heart that was trying to tell him that something was very wrong.
"Mr Jenkins took Millie to the art room" a voice interrupted his panic.
Finn frowned, turning to his left to see her Chemistry teacher shooting him a knowing smile at his wondering eyes. He glanced in the direction of the art studio, his eyebrows furrowing as the confusion flowed out of his mouth. "T-That's not possible, she-"
The woman shrugged. "She asked to go there to finish some work."
When he finally found himself standing outside of the large art studio, the aura was extremely tense and quiet as he tugged on the straps of his backpack nervously. There was nobody else around but there she was, standing in the middle of the room with an easel in front of her, her small body wrapped in over-sized apron. Her golden waves were pulled back from her face into a low bun, tendrils curling around the nape of her neck as she ran her hands through her hair in frustration. Finn tried to catch a glimpse of her canvas, which was dotted with random splashes of color and lines as if she was trying to work out which color she was using. After a moment she reached for the pots of paint beside her, using her hands to get a good feel as if it would somehow help her to figure out the shades. Her eyes were full of hesitation, hands desperately trying to grab and work out what color she had left where, so that she could focus on what it was that she was trying to create. Standing there among all of the color that had been stolen from her, Finn had never seen her look so lost.
"Need some help?" he called out hesitantly.
Millie's shoulders tensed, but as soon as she heard Finn's voice and realized that he had been watching her, she shook her head firmly. "No."
"Okay" he mumbled.
After getting closer to her and figuring out more of how she reacted to certain situations, he had started to figure out when to hold back. He knew that if he kept pushing her beyond a certain point, that she would snap away from him like an elastic band and never come back. But after moments of watching her struggle to work out colors and what she wanted to create onto her blank canvas, he stepped forward hesitantly and cleared his throat.
