song - Such A Simple Thing by Ray LaMontagne
~"Tell me what you're feeling
I can take the pain
Tell me that you mean it
That you won't leave again"~There were so many details that she didn't notice before, so many parts of him that she had never looked close enough to see. The details were small enough for others to not care, small details that changed over time - like the way that she could never count the exact amount of his freckles because it was impossible. They would be most prominent over the winter months, a clear contrast to his pale skin, skin that almost glowed with more time that he spent indoors compared to summer. She would try her best to watch him carefully, counting them in her head but whenever she got up to the bridge of his nose, his amused eyes would meet hers and she would lose her focus. The way that she lost her breath at his sharp cheekbones, them hollowing out even further when he parted his lips, it was something that she had never noticed. As soon as she started to notice how chapped those plump lips got within winter, she had tried to cover them with lip balm, him slapping her hands away with stubbornness. It was quite hard to focus on his eyes when she got lost in them, heart pounding away to an off-beat rhythm at how they softened around her. But one day she realized how they were so much more than dark brown-almost black, that underneath brighter light or the flash of a camera - the color changed to an almost golden amber. Her heart flew once she took note of it, knowing that over the lifetime that they would spend together - she would only notice more details.
"Staring at me again?" Finn would tease her.
Millie would raise her eyebrows. "Am I not allowed to?"
"Stare?" he continued, amused smile playing on the edge of his lips.
His girlfriend would lean closer, "Appreciate."
Finn's eyes would soften and the color would brighten slightly, dark chocolate melting into sweet toffee. They would find their way to each other like they always did, Millie being the one to initiate the exchange, her lips pressing against his with an eagerness that made him grin. He would never have the patience to tease her, returning the kiss with equal desperation, letting out content sighs as they took small breaks to find air.
He would pull away eventually, still panting slightly. "But you never let me stare at you. You always say that it's annoying and distracting."
She would shrug. "It is annoying."
"It's appreciating!"
"I don't like compliments either" she would wrinkle her nose.
"I know!" Finn would groan, rolling his eyes. "You pretty much glare at me whenever I say anything nice about you!"
She tried to pull him closer by the collar. "So what?"
"I should be able to say that you're sweet - when you want to be - and how adorable it is when you blush, because fuck it's adorable. I should be able to say how soft your hair is...how much I always want to kiss you...how you are one of the strongest people that I-"
Her lips cut him off, stealing away his words.
Finn kept mumbling stubbornly between kisses, "...and you drive me crazy-"
"...shut up..." she would groan in reply, catching his lower lip between her own. It would be enough to make him stop for a moment, sighing out peacefully as every thought left his brain, his lips simply responding to her gentle kisses.
But he just wouldn't be able to help himself, blurting the next words out between a deep kiss, "....did I mention beautiful?" He would have wanted to almost laugh at Millie's glare against her bright red cheeks, but when she would bury her fingers into his raven curls, he wouldn't be able to argue any further - simply letting their lips dance in the only way that they knew how.
