Mason and Bishop walk down the hall and Mason stops in front of a door waving off Bishop who walks away. He brings his hand up knocking and hears the voice from inside give him permission to enter. He opens the door and the General glances up eyeing him over and nods to Mason.

"Mr. Reid."

"General."

Mason steps closer and the General keeps his eyes down on the journal as the General comments.

"lots of communities, and lots of people."

The General place down the journal and stares up to Mason as he asks.

"why am I attacking all of them?"

"orders are orders."

"yes, the Patriots are loyal but we don't just blindly follow and we have been. so I deserve to know why so many men died at the den."

"orders are orders."

"that's not good enough Mason."

The General stares down the journal and taps it with his hand.

"we deserve better."

"really? because if I remember correctly General you were the one who planned to overthrow my father, on the estate when I was gone and people died sir, innocent people, that could be alive today."

Mason pulls out a chair and sits in it staring down the General and Mason nods to him.

"I gave you a second chance, a chance at redemption."

"those people Mason people we killed at the den they didn't need to die."

"they did." Mason nods his head sure of what he said and the General sits back eyeing over the younger man and asks.

"you seem off, are you alright?"

Mason scratches the back of his head and thinks about his best friend but shakes his head.

"I am fine General. just do your job and follow orders."

Mason gets up and the General asks outright.

"but whose orders are you following Mason? Someone is pulling your strings aren't they?"

The General stares him down and Mason sakes his head disagreeing.

"you know originally it was my dad. he was a lot smarter and knew what it took in this world."

"now, who is it?" The General leans forward staring down Mason and Mason shakes his head.

"no one we do what we have to do."

"I don't believe that Mason I respect your words but I know for a fact with respect you have been a coward. I won't blindly lead my boys without knowing who is pulling your strings."

"someone you don't want to fuck with." Mason motions back to the General.

"we all have jobs to do General, even me."

The door slams shut and Mason stands there staring it down but blinks hearing a voice.

"Reid?"

Mason keeps staring at the door and he hears the woman's voice.

"it's okay I know you did what you had to do."

Fiona stares down Mason and Mason stares at the door blankly as she steps towards him and whispers.

"why don't we go somewhere, just us."

Fiona walks Mason down the hall and into a room closing the door behind her. She feels the gun tucked away in the holster on her belt and closes over her jacket keeping her back to Mason. She doesn't turn around and hears Mason break down crying as he whispers.

"I had no choice. if I die everyone dies Fiona. I had to choose between him or me."

"and you chose yourself." Fiona says sounding upset and Mason covers his mouth whispering.

"I wish I chose him."

"then we'd all be dead Mason." Fiona says it coldly staring at the door as she brushes her fingers on her gun thinking to herself.

"it shouldn't have gone that way. I...Fiona I didn't want it to go that way."

Fiona nods her head believing Mason's words as she coldly states.

"but it had to."

"did it?" Mason asks sounding unsure.

"I mean Fee he was my best friend and I set him up, he was your brother and I killed him."

"yes." Fiona nods her head and takes her hand off her gun pulling her jacket closed as she wipes her tears.

"you did kill him but you had to Mason. if there was another way you would have found it. we need you strong now."

"I don't think I can be."

Fiona turns around and nods to Mason sending him reassurance.

"you can be. you have been through a lot worse and you have a lot more people counting on you."

Fiona sits down next to Mason and stares him over feeling the rage build up but controls it as she lies to him.

"I forgive you"

She places her hand over his and nods to him.

"you did what you had to do when you had to do it. we all have jobs to do Mason and yours is the hardest
