Chapter 44: Confusion

- Takami's POV -

In My Bedroom

I laid down on my bed, continuing to look at the men's magazine to see what Kiyoshi might like for his birthday. "Uhh! Why is it soo hard!" I threw the magazine up in the air and it fell onto of me.

Kenta rushed into my room. "When is Aki coming over!"

I sat up on my bed and sighed. "Remember, I'm going out with Kiyoshi now."

"Pfffffftttttt, doesn't mean I can't hang out with him." He walked out of my room with an attitude.

I collapsed onto my bed and put my arm over my eyes. "Why did he have to bring up the past..." Then, suddenly, an idea popped into my head. "I got it!"

Time Lapse: 5 Minutes Later

Kiyoshi: You want to take me to the aquarium?

I sat on my bed. "I mean your birthday is coming up so I wanted to go somewhere with you. Too cheesy?" I scratched the back of my head and awkwardly giggled.

Kiyoshi: No, not at all. I'm just surprised you wanted to be with me.

I blinked twice. "Why do you say that?"

Kiyoshi awkwardly giggled. "No reason."

"Oh... Um... Let's meet up at 12 on your birthday then." I smiled.

Kiyoshi: Sure.

Call Ends

I put my phone on my bed and looked at it. "Weird, he doesn't seem like himself."

The Next Day

I walked into the classroom and put down my school bag on my desk.

"I heard you're going to the aquarium with Kiyoshi." Aoi walked over with a smile.

"How do you know?" I asked.

She giggled, "Kiyoshi told me about it. He was really confused."

I looked down at my bag. "Did something happen to Kiyoshi? When I asked him to go, he didn't seem excited..."

Aoi put her arm around my neck. "I know my little brother and I know that he's excited."

I looked up and felt relieved. "Thank goodness."

"Good morning." Aki stood near his desk and looked at us as he put down his bag on the table.

My heart started to race faster than before. "Good... morning..." I tried to avoid eye contact by looking down at the floor.

"Good morning, Aki!" Mariko jumped on top of Aki with excitement.

"Mariko, we're in public right now." Aki seemed unphased.

"Oh, come on, we're engaged. It's responsible for me to do something romantic for you." Mariko hugged him tighter.

Aoi and I both sweat-dropped. "Are we invisible?" We asked in unison.

Suddenly, in front of the whole class, Mariko kissed Aki on the lips. Aki's eyes wide open and Mariko's closed. Everyone stood there in shock.

My eyes started to get teary. I tried to hold it in but I couldn't. I looked up and our eyes came into contact. Aki pulled away from Mariko and reached his hand out to me but suddenly, someone put his hand over my eyes and pulled me back.

"There's nothing to see." A familiar voice whispered in my ear. Kiyoshi! "Please excuse us." He continued to put his hand over my eyes as we walked out of the classroom.

At the Roof

I wiped away my tears. "Thanks, Kiyoshi."

"Why were you crying?" He walked closer to me.

I started to think about it. Why was I crying? "I..." I looked away to avoid eye contact.

"Is it because we haven't kissed yet?" Kiyoshi smiled as he put his arms around me. "Don't worry, I'll make our first kiss special."

I started to blush as my heart raced fast. Then, I smiled in relief. "Yeah... that's exactly why."

- Kiyoshi's POV -

After School

"Awww, that's so cute." Aoi swung her bag happily as we were walking home. "You guys are the perfect couple."

My heart tightened. "Takami probably doesn't like me anymore." I looked up at the orange sky.

"What! Why you think like that!" She yelled in front of me.

I sighed. "Because I overheard Takami and Akihiro in the nurse's office talking about their relationship in the past. It seems like Takami stil isn't over him."

Aoi smiled. "Don't worry about it. I know that Takami likes you."

My heart felt relieved but I wasn't fully convinced. "Maybe..."

She blinked twice and thought outloud. "Why were you overhearing a private conversation between them?"

I sweat-dropped. "Um... you know... I was just there...?"

She giggled. "Yeah, right."
