- Takami's POV -
I opened the classroom door. "Good morning." I smiled at everyone.
"Hey, Takami." The students said.
I walked over to my desk and saw Akihiro laying his head down, sleeping. I didn't want to disturb him so I sat down and waited for Sachie to show up.
Bell Rings
"Good morning, class." Ms. Ono walked into the room.
"Good morning, Ms. Ono."
Sachie is late today? I wonder what happened.
Lunchtime
"Hey, Aki. Are you going to basketball practice today?"
"Yeah, I'm trying to beat Haru."
I stood up from my seat. "Why don't we go..." Before I could finish the question, he already left the room. "...together?" I looked at the floor depressed. "What should I do?" I sighed. "I guess I'll go myself."
At the Gymnasium
I stood behind all the girls squealing in front of the entrance.
I sweat-dropped. "I can't believe this happens every day."
"This is no different from what happens every morning for you." I turned around and saw Junto holding a bottle of water.
"I guess."
Junto looked around. "Where's Sachie?"
"I don't know." I took out my phone from my pocket. "She hasn't messaged me today."
"Come on, let's go into the gym." Junto made a pathway between the girls and I followed him.
We entered the gymnasium and all I could hear was basketballs hitting the floor. I walked over to the bleachers and heard my stomach growl. "Damn, I'm not supposed to be hungry right now."
Mayako, the vice student council president, walked up from behind me and handed me half of her bread. "Here."
"Are you sure?" I grabbed the bread.
She sat next to me. "Yeah, it's my way of apologizing to you."
I tilted my head. "Apologizing? For what?"
"I was rude to you the other day and I apologize."
Flashback
"How dare you call him Junto! It's Student Council President!" Mayako walked up to my face.
"Oh, sorry, Mayako."
"It's Vice Student Council President to you!" She continued to spit in my face.
Back to the Present
"Oh, it's no big deal." I took a bite of the bread. "You were only trying to do your job."
"But I should've been nicer." She looked down at her bread.
I looked at the basketball team. Damn, this situation is awkward. My eyes widened when, suddenly, Aki fell down on the floor. I quickly ran over to him.
"Akihiro, are you okay?" Coach Goto bent down.
All the players huddled around Aki as I tried to get through.
"I think I sprained my ankle." Aki held onto his leg.
"You should probably get it checked out." Coach Goto looked around. "Takami, can you take Akihiro to the nurse's office?"
I walked closer to Aki but he stopped me. "It's fine. I can go myself."
"But your leg looks really bad."
"It's fine!" Aki yelled.
Haru sighed and put Aki's arm around his neck. "I'll take him to the nurse's office." They started to walk out of the gymnasium.
"Thanks, Haru," Coach Goto said. "Okay, everyone back to practice."
Everyone went back to playing basketball and Mayako and I went to the bleachers.
"I hope Akihiro is okay." Mayako continued to eat her bread.
I looked down at the floor. "Same."
- Haru's POV -
In Front of the Nurse's Office
I opened the door and entered. "Hello, anyone in here?" No answer. "Guess not." I put Aki on the bed and started to look for some bandages.
"Thanks for carrying me." Aki put one of his legs up on the bed and held up. "Damn, it really hurts."
"So why didn't you accept Tamami offer?" I continued to look for bandages in the cabinets.
"No reason." Aki looked out the window.
Haru sighed. "When we were little, I remember that you used to always smile when you were around Takami. What happened?"
"Things change after I knew the truth."
"The truth? About what?" I finally found the bandages and started to wrap his leg.
"Takami."
"Dude, I've been with Takami my whole life and I don't even know what you're talking about."
- Takami's POV -
In the Hallways
"I should probably go see if Aki is okay."
"Takami!" Hisao, the president of the Takami and Sachie Club, came running towards me.
"Hisao? What's up?"
Hisao stood in front of me, trying to catch his breath. "Can I do an interview on you and Sachie?"
"Um... sure." I walked around him. "But not right now. Maybe some other time." I headed for the nurse's office until I saw Haru running towards me. "Haru! Is Aki okay?"
Haru tried to catch his breath. "You have to hear what Aki thought about you this whole time."
Time Lapse
My eyes widened. I started running to the nurse's office. I can't believe what I just heard.
In Front of the Nurse's Office
I opened the door and saw Aki holding onto his leg on the bed.
"Aki?"
"Takami, what are you doing here?" Aki put on a blank face.
I walked closer to him. "Did your father tell you that I was one of the friends he bought to hang out with you?"
Aki avoided eye contact. "Yeah, what about it?"
"Aki, your father never gave me money. I entered your property on my own accord. Then, we started to become good friends." I put both my hands on my chest. "Our time together was real! Please believe me."
There was a silence in the nurse's office.
"I moved back to Hakata because my father passed away, and I should believe his words but..." Aki looked at me. "...how could I when all he's ever told me were lies."
A tear ran down my face. "Your father passed away?"
"Yeah, he was diagnosed with cancer."
"I'm so sorry." Tears ran down my face. "Even though I never personally meet him, I still feel sorry."
"It's fine, I'm over it." Aki got off the bed and walked up to me. "I believe you." He held out his hand for me to shake. "How about we start over. Hi, I'm Akihiro Kaneko."
I wiped away my tears and put my hand out for him to shake. "Wait a minute..." I took back my hand. "Why did you act like you didn't like me when you came back?" I asked.
"Just trying to adjust to a new school."
"Reasonable." I smiled and shook his hand. "Hi, I'm Takami Hirota."
