July 22 Prov 23

12 4 1

I just realized I didn't publish this chapter! And I was wondering why no one read it! 😂 sorry about that, here it is now!

On Saturday I had another bad episode. My aunt brought me to the hospital, but I felt a lot better after about 45 min in the waiting room and didn't feel like spending the whole night there cause the the wait was so long, so she brought me back.

And today I got a bit of a fever. At least I'm back from my aunt's house and can finally see Will tomorrow! We haven't seen each other for almost a week since I was at my aunt's house.

1 When you sit down to eat with a ruler, observe carefully what is before you,

2 and put a knife to your throat if you are given to appetite.
1-2 Interesting verses, not sure the meaning them though.
I think the meaning is that you shouldn't be greedy and eat like a glutton.

3 Do not desire his delicacies, for they are deceptive food.

4 Do not toil to acquire wealth; be discerning enough to desist.
Its okay to work for wealth iml, but don't strive for it too much. It's all material gain at the end of the day. It's better to withhold pursuit if you don't absolutely need it.

5 When your eyes light on it, it is gone, for suddenly it sprouts wings, flying like an eagle toward heaven.
Will and I were just talking about how money flies away!
Sometimes, when you're close to getting what you want(like wealth), God puts things in your path that puts an end to it. It probably won't grow winds and fly...but you get it.

6 Do not eat the bread of a man who is stingy; do not desire his delicacies,
Looking at this verse, I think I should cancel tomorrow's plans for eating at flips, eh? 😉
It depends who's cooking, some people are more stingy than others. 😂 The portions are pretty huge though, you do get your money's worth if you are smart about what you order.
I'm not even going to eat the bread there! 😂

7 for he is like one who is inwardly calculating. "Eat and drink!" he says to you, but his heart is not with you.
Give from the heart, not just to put on a show.

8 You will vomit up the morsels that you have eaten, and waste your pleasant words.

9 Do not speak in the hearing of a fool, for he will despise the good sense of your words.

10 Do not move an ancient landmark or enter the fields of the fatherless,

11 for their Redeemer is strong; he will plead their cause against you.

12 Apply your heart to instruction and your ear to words of knowledge.
Good advice.
Love this verse. Just apply yourself, especially for knowledge.

13 Do not withhold discipline from a child; if you strike him with a rod, he will not die.
It's okay to discipline children. Children without discipline grow up to be spoiled ungrateful punks. Many people today consider discipline bad, but I disagree wholeheartedly.
I had to laugh when the I read that😂 spoiled ungrateful punks! That should be my go-to insult! 😂

14 If you strike him with the rod, you will save his soul from Sheol.
Striking a child for bad behavior might seem too "cruel" for some, but it will ultimately save him from bad influences.

15 My son, if your heart is wise, my heart too will be glad.
God want us to be wise because true wisdom comes from love and fear of the Lord, which we will outwardly show.

16 My inmost being will exult when your lips speak what is right.

17 Let not your heart envy sinners, but continue in the fear of the LORD all the day.
It's so easy to envy sinners.
Ignore the vices and temptations that sinners fall through. Keep focus on what God wants for you.

18 Surely there is a future, and your hope will not be cut off.

19 Hear, my son, and be wise, and direct your heart in the way.

20 Be not among drunkards or among gluttonous eaters of meat,
In other words, don't hang with people that are bad influences. Whether it be drunks, fornicators, gluttonous folks, etc.

21 for the drunkard and the glutton will come to poverty, and slumber will clothe them with rags.
If you waste all your money on food and alcohol, you will be poor.

22 Listen to your father who gave you life, and do not despise your mother when she is old.
The old rule. Respect and obey your parents. Don't do stupid things that will disappoint them.

23 Buy truth, and do not sell it; buy wisdom, instruction, and understanding.

24 The father of the righteous will greatly rejoice; he who fathers a wise son will be glad in him.

25 Let your father and mother be glad; let her who bore you rejoice.
Please don't give your parents sorrow if you can help it.
Similar to what I said in 22. Don't do stupid things, and keep them happy and proud by obeying them and being the best person you can be.

26 My son, give me your heart, and let your eyes observe my ways.
Give God your heart and soul. He knows what's best for you, and you just follow his path he laid out for you.

27 For a prostitute is a deep pit; an adulteress is a narrow well.

28 She lies in wait like a robber and increases the traitors among mankind.

29 Who has woe? Who has sorrow? Who has strife? Who has complaining? Who has wounds without cause? Who has redness of eyes?

30 Those who tarry long over wine; those who go to try mixed wine.

31 Do not look at wine when it is red, when it sparkles in the cup and goes down smoothly.

32 In the end it bites like a serpent and stings like an adder.
It can look so appealing, but if you abuse alcohol, you and those around you will pay. Alcohol causes damage that can affect people for years, even lifetimes. Be careful.
31-32 Don't get drunk!

33 Your eyes will see strange things, and your heart utter perverse things.

34 You will be like one who lies down in the midst of the sea, like one who lies on the top of a mast.

35 "They struck me," you will say, "but I was not hurt; they beat me, but I did not feel it. When shall I awake? I must have another drink." - Proverbs 23
Having another drink to drown out your alcohol caused problems. That's something a fool would do.
