Ryan's POV.

I tried to be as quick as possible and told Lisa the same. Kate might wake up and it's not that I don't trust Matt because I sure do but Kate needs me. I never left her side for serious times and in her state, she easily gets panicked when I am not there for her. Lisa quickly grabs everything for her, she really knows what she needs and we leave. She tells me that she can't come with me to the hospital today cause she has something organised that she can't cancel. I am not blaming her. She will come tomorrow.

As I arrive to the hospital, Kate's room is silent. I was sure that she will wake up but seems like I was wrong. I was away for 3 hours because I had to arrange everything for my more time away. I needed to rush into the company and grab some of my stuff to be able to work next to Kate. She is ahead of me with her work so I need to catch up.
As I enter the room,I realise immediately that she has an IV. attached to her arm and her arm is getting kinda green and purple like a bruise. Something doesn't seem right.
Matt is standing in front of the window, his back facing me so I whisper a hello to him. But as he turns towards me, he looks terrible.

"What happened? Is Kate alright?"

Matt hesitated to answer but finally said in an exhausted voice:
"Actually..I think not. Listen I was really trying and she nearly could calm down but she was just making her feel more on edge and I couldn't help her..."

"Heeey,slow down. You need to explain what happened. And first, you need to calm down."

Matt took deep breaths and started from the beginning. He explained me how Kate was doing so good but being afraid of needles made her on edge. And that damn nurse was brutal to her and sedated her while it was the last thing I wanted.
My blood is boiling. I don't pay this damn high price for someone to disrespect Kate and use methods like this. I ask Matt to stay for a bit and rush out from the room, towards James' office.
After a knock,he lets me in and looks like he knows what happened.
I try not to be angry at him,maybe he doesn't even know what happened exactly.
"Never let that damn nurse close to her again. If that's necessary,I get her a private nurse."

James looked tense:
"Ryan, she needed to sedate Kate. She was hurting herself. And I told you before that we need to help her as effectively as we can"

We never had arguments with James but now I just lost my temper:
"Fuck James,by hurting her even more? Do you even know what she did to Kate? And don't start that I wasn't there cause Kate's best friend,Matt was with her and had to live that through. It would be good if I wouldn't pay this goddamn high price for this kind of unprofessionalism. "

James now looked suprised. He is not one to get into a fight and he doesn't do it now either.
"Calm down Ryan. I don't know exactly what happened only what the nurse told me. "

I tried to keep my voice down, but I was cold.
"Kate was having a panick attack. I sure told you about the exact situation. And I am pretty damn sure that it's not the best technique to calm a panic attack down to sedate someone with this brutality. Kate is getting bruised all over her arm. I don't think that much force was needed to inject my fragile weak girl."

"I didn't know any of this Ryan. You must believe me that if I would have known I wouldn't let her next to Kate. Shit Ryan,I wouldn't let anyone to be treated like this."

"I don't care James. All I need is to never ever let her close to Kate. I don't care what it costs. And I really hope you believe me or you can see for yourself. I don't want an explanation from that nurse. One person who I fully trust have seen with his own eyes what happened so just get her the hell away from Kate. And I would advise you professionally to get rid of someone with this manners."

"I am so sorry Ryan. I really didn't know. I will inform nurses about her special state cause I know it can be harmful for her depression to be treated like this. I will pay more attention to her too. Now let's go and see how she is doing. Calm down. We will solve this. Trust me man. "

I really tried to be nicer but when someone's harming Kate,I am on autopilot.
"I trusted you James. That was all I've done and look where we are."

At this time James didn't answer me but looked sad.
He came into Kate's room and examined her arm at first. He also got mad when seeing her arm. Now it really showed the bruising how the nurse grabbed her arm and how she didn't really paid attention on her veins.
He excused himself and rushed out of the room angrily. I went after him shortly but at his door I could hear him shouting to someone which was really strange. I just realised I never heard James shout.

"Did you even get a normal education? Have you seen what you have done to that poor girl? And damn she is one my best friends' fiancée. This hospital is meant to be above standards and we are in the private area. These people pay us more than your salary for a proper treatment. Your methods are unacceptable so I file a suspension, you don't have to come in for the next 2 weeks at least. And If I were you, I would really consider looking for another job and maybe not as a nurse. We can't give good feedback about you,whoever wants to employ you next. Now, you can leave."

I was shocked how cold James was but from the professional side,I would be the same like him. And sometimes it's scary hearing someone with this cold ruthless tone which I am sure I have too. Someone rushes out of James' office,and I am pretty sure she must be the nurse hurting Kate. She doesn't look hurt,but angry. I won't be sorry for her,she earned the consequences of her own actions and haven't even realised that it was bad. James's office door is crackly open so I go in and close the door behind me. James looked up but then buried his face in his hands as he was sitting in his chair. He was dissapointed and blamed himself. At some point I did too but I can't expect him to have his full attention on Kate. And he is really one of my best friends.
"It's okay James. We can't change what happened. I am grateful that you made consequences. You can understand that I protect Kate. "

He looked up finally and answered me
"Of course I understand Ryan. I would do the exact same thing for my Julia if it would have happened with her. I just feel like shit. This nurse worked under my supervision so I fucked up too. And I never wanted to fuck up this badly that someone must suffer from it. Not to mention that it's you, fuck. I try everything to make it up to you Ryan, I know that I am risking your trust. "

"Shit,I still trust you James. Don't blame yourself. Nobody should have gone through this so it's not your fault. All we need to focus is Kate. And all I ask is extra care and attention. She is so unstable emotionally that sedation must be the last thing to use. And I am pretty sure that you don't have to use it if someone is with Kate. If it's me or her best friend, we can manage and I promise we will ask for help if we can't. I just don't want to bring her home more damaged emotionally than I brought her in."

"Deal. I am really sorry Ryan. I pay extra attention to her but I hope you can be with her as much as you can."

"Deal. I am not planning on leaving. Now if you excuse me,I'll get back to her before she wakes up. As Matt told me, after this,she will need me more than before. And James. I am not angry at you. You still my friend. Don't beat yourself up over this."

James thanked me and I finally left his office to go back to my love and face the hardest part when she has to face much more of her fears than before.
