Chapter 55

●●●

„Shit." Yoongi almost tripped over a root but Jimin caught him, helping him find his balance again.

"Look where you're going." Jimin warned, his tone nothing but soft.

"I'm trying... there really hasn't been anyone here in years..." The woods were chaotic and it was almost impossible to get through all the thicket. Even Jimin struggled a bit since he hadn't been here for quite some time and a lot of the paths he used to use were gone.

Yoongi watched as a snake slithered through the bushes just a couple of meters from them. "Wait, aren't there quite a few dangerous animals here?"

Yeah, maybe Jimin was safe being here, but Yoongi couldn't say the same thing about himself.

"Don't worry about it. They won't come here as long as you stay around me." He promised, smiling reassuringly before grabbing Yoongi's hand.

And then he pulled him further along what could have been a path if it wasn't this impossible to walk on.

They reached a small ditch and Jimin offered Yoongi something drink. The boy hadn't even realized how thirsty he was at this point. They just sat there for some time, staring at the water in silence.

"I used to sit here hours on end. Animals come here to drink so I just watched them come and go. Actually..." Jimin glanced around, searching the area around them, before getting up from where he was sitting. Yoongi felt a bit anxious with the way Jimin slowly put one foot in front of the other, climbing some stones on the side of the pitch. It was almost like he was a predator hunting for his prey.

Jimin very slowly kneed down on the edge before hitting the floor, making some noise. For a second nothing happened and then something gray shot out from under the rocks, but Jimin moved quicker, his hand snapping forward and grabbing the animal. The speed at which he did made it impossible for Yoongi to even properly see the movement.

"Shhhh shhh it's just me." Jimin muttered softly as Yoongi looked at the thrashing animal in Jimin's hold. It was a cat. A slightly odd looking one. It had a print like a cheetah on its fur and its face looked a bit more like a tiger's than a cat's but judging by its size and built it certainly was a cat.

After a couple of seconds of trying to wriggle out of Jimin's hold the cat slowly calmed down, sniffing Jimin's hands. Jimin jumped off the stones and jogged next to Yoongi again.

"Animals tend to get a bit weary around me 'cause instincts." Jimin explained, slowly bringing the cat down to his own chest, carefully to make sure it wouldn't try to scratch him. "This little guy was kind of my pet when I lived here..." Jimin explained with a warm smile, patting the cat's fur.

Finally, the cat seemed to properly recognize Jimin and rubbed its head against his chest. "He's grown a bit old though... I think his nose might not work all that well anymore." Jimin addressed, glancing at how thin it had gotten. "Take him."

Without another word he pushed the cat into Yoongi's hands, who took it rather reluctantly, not all that sure whether taking a completely wild cat was such a save idea, but the cat purred in his hold, which he took as a good sign for now.

He watched as Jimin pulled his pants up to not get them wet before stepping into the streaming water. Jimin seemed to be searching for something, his eyes scanning over the water and then he moved again, so quick that Yoongi couldn't follow.

He let out a triumphant laugh, holding something in his hand. He climbed back on shore, holding a lizard. Yoongi watched as he grabbed it with his second hand, snapping its neck in a swift motion. Yoongi winced. He got the running by instinct part way too well.
