The three states that matter share this letter
I'd say for worse, maybe for better
Illinois, Wisconsin, and Michigan it seems
But guess what? There is no I in team.
The three dates that matter most share this number
I thought it was lucky but it tears me asunder
Our love, our touch and our break share a two
But guess what? There is no I with you.
The three things we'd always say share this trait
Something I unfortunately discovered too late
"I love you"s, "I miss you"s, and "We're perfect, you and I"s
But guess what? There is no I in your lies.
The three things I told you would always stand strong
A habit of mine that I'd like to call wrong
I loved you, I'd stay, hope things go well for awhile
But guess what? There is no I making you smile.
The three things I wished for you are things you can't test
You could take them to the bank or in your fibs invest
Good luck, good will, and good fortune every night
But guess what? There is no I to aid in your fight.
The three things you asked for are things I tried to give
And I told you I tried, without you I'd not live
Do I look like I'm living? I am, from afar
Because guess what? I am still your guardian star.
