There are friends,
There is family,
And then there are friends that become family.___________________________________
"You really should be grateful to that boy."
I looked at Miley who was lounging at her bed, in a denim jeans and a black top, with slight make-up on her face.
I nodded. "Trust me, I am. If it wasn't for Eddy, Dobora would eaten me up alive," I earnestly confessed.
The way Dobora had looked at me after finding out I had helped Roman was scary.
Thankfully she was friend's with Edwin Jones, aka Eddie. The basketball captain and Arden's best friend's brother.
Therefore, useful to me. I had went to him for help and he had promised to talk to Dobora and low and behold the girl decided not to just leave me but Roman alone as well.
What Eddie said worked like magic. And I couldn't be more grateful.
"What was Roman thinking when he made out with Dobora?" Miley asked with a shake of head.
My friends had each given a different reaction when I had told them what had happened last week.
Lina had squealed in delight saying that it was fate that brought us together, which caused me to snort.
Miley had laughed, telling me how utterly amazing it was to hit the bad boy with my car, though she would have loved it even more if I had just ran over him. Homicidal, I know, but I still love her.
Jack, however, had just looked at me for the longest before warning me to stay away from Roman and his friends and then had left rather grumpily uttering something about being late for class.
It had occurred to me as rather odd, but I put the matter out of my mind.
Was Roman thinking at all?
But I didn't voice my thoughts. Instead Lina who was standing behind me braiding my hair pointed out, "I heard he was drunk. Plus he never really asked her out, she just assumed they were together."
"I still don't feel bad for him," I shrugged thinking about the way he acted out today in school.
"Oh yeah." Miley sat up on her bed, her face showed she just remembered something. "Did you find the ring?"
"Thankfully," I breathed out, patting my black jeans pocket to make sure it was in place.
Perks of not gardening the lawn for over three days; you find lost stuff. And a lot of waste as well. The last thought made me shiver.
"And done," Lina proudly announced and then swung my chair towards the mirror.
She had kept the make-up minimum and had skilfully fish-tailed my hair. "Wow I look like a girl," I marvelled and Lina scoffed.
She walked over to the bed and sat down, looking extra preppy than usual in her floral skirt and singlet.
"Sweety you two are girls under all that layer of sass and clothes," she mused and the three of us shared a grin.
"Girls, Jake's here," Miley's mom screamed from downstairs and Miley and I shared a frown.
"Why didn't he just come upstairs, like he always does?" Miley puzzled as she got off the bed to put her shoes on.
Lina shrugged. "Maybe he's in a rush?" She suggested and I dubiously nodded. "Yeah maybe."
Lina walked out the room and Miley and I followed behind her, a little slower than her.
"Did something happen between you two?" Miley leaned in and asked and I shook my head in confusion.
Downstairs Jake waited near the door and upon hearing us he looked up and half-grinned. Which seemed slightly forced but I didn't point it out.
"Hello ladies. You ready to Go?" He asked and Miley raised her fist in the air. "Hell yeah. The booze is calling-"
"-the police to create a record of you. So you better stay away from it," Miley's mom interrupted as she walked out of the living room and gave Miley a stern look.
Lina snorted slightly while Miley have her mom a mischievous grin. "Of course mother."
May God help us all.

There really was something wrong with Jake. He tired to act normal but he was failing.
When we parked the car outside June's house, the party was pumping inside. Loud music could be heard from where we were and people were going in packs.
June's back-to-school parties were notoriously known. She had been hosting one since her freshmen year and this was her last since she was graduating this year and she had went all out with the guest list.
Everyone was invited.
Miley and Lina wasted no time to walk out the car and towards the door but I waited for Jake to lock the jeep.
"Jake," I called out but he didn't look my way as he rolled the windows up. "Are you mad?"
When he didn't reply back, I took him by the elbow and turned him my way only to find him slightly glaring at me.
"Does any of your brother's know about this Roman thing?" He asked me straight away and I sighed, knowing this was coming.
My brothers had given my responsibility to Jake and he took that very seriously. And I loved him for that but him acting out was annoying.
"No," I confessed, but raised my hand to stop him from saying anything. "And before you say anything, I had good reasons."
When he didn't say anything, I elaborated, "One, I didn't want Dobora to know from anywhere and you know Arden has a big mouth."
Jake contemplated for a second before nodding in agreement. "Two, I knew my brothers would never leave and I need them to move on. And to let me do things my way. To let me grow up."
Jake looked at me before sighing in defeat. "Fine."
"Yaay," I chirped. Hooking my elbow around his, I dragged him to the party. "Anyway, I know you have my back."
