Smile at strangers,
And you might change a life.

"Shit," I cursed, as I walked straight into a chair because I was looking at a meme on my phone, while finding a place in the library to sit."You really do have a habit of running into things, don't you?"
I looked around to find the source of the voice coming from the table a little ahead from where I stood.
Rubbing the place where the chair had hit, I grunted, "No. Just your brute friend and a couple of things here and there."
Gabriel rolled his eyes and then raised an eyebrow as I settled in the chair next to his.
"Shouldn't you be in class?" He asked and I refrained from making any lame jokes. Instead, I stated, "Homeroom. You?"
"Same," Gabriel said and I nodded. It got a little awkward, so after a few minutes, I questioned, "Where's the rest of the gang?"
Gabriel looked up from his book. "Roman and Astrid had class and Declan-"
"-is with Miley," I interrupted. "Yeah, I was sitting with them until the whole chemistry talk started getting to my head."
Thankfully it had been two weeks since Miley had been tutoring Declan and safe to say the latter was alive.
It had also been two weeks since I saved them from those men and suffice to say, I didn't have much encounter with Roman in between.
Except for French class - the only class we shared - though we hardly talk despite being seated next to each other due to the stupid seating chart in the class.
Gabriel and I, on the other hand, had many classes together but he didn't interact much either.
I let out a chuckle. "I realized this is most I've heard from you," I told Gabriel and he nodded.
He really wasn't much of a talker, was he?
Leaning forward on the table, I inquired, "Tell me something Gabriel, do you have something against smiling?"
"I just don't see the point of smiling uselessly," Gabriel divulge and I smiled at him sadly.
"What you may deem as useless may be something that is useful to others," I pointed out and Gabriel frowned.
"And how is smiling useful?" He questioned, looking genuinely interested but just then the bell rang and I let out a laugh.
"If I start listing it's advantages, we could be here all day but I'm starving," I confessed as I stood up to gather my things and leave for the cafeteria.
A sudden thought occurred to me as Gabriel stood up and I asked, "You have lunch next?" When he nodded, I grinned.
We walked side-by-side to the cafeteria in silence but as I neared my usual table, I frowned.
"What is going on there?" I asked Gabriel but he too looked a bit shocked.
Miley and Declan looked at us at the same time and both screeched in unison, "Faith."
I flinched slightly because their voices were like tuning forks.
"Tell him to get up because this is your seat," Miley complained as she tried to push Declan out of the chair while the latter held onto the chair tightly.
Looking at those two, I leaned towards Gabriel and whispered, "How did we end up with children like these?"
Looking at them, even Gabriel let out a little smirk. "If it makes you feel better, you're exactly like them when you're with them," he mused and I pouted.
