6. Past

Emma's pov

"Actually it doesn't matter. Forget I ever asked." I notice Connor's sad smile appear on his face making me feel sad, but I can't move or react. I literally can't move. It is like I have turned to stone. Suddenly the simplest things that we do in our day today lives becomes so hard to do breathing, speaking, moving. I can't do any of it. All I do is stare at Connor as his words rush through my mind along with Brady’s words and past experiences. “Emma?” I don’t react. I hear a door fly open to my right and female voices start talking.

“How was it?”

“Great until she froze. She isn’t reacting. I asked her to be my girlfriend and she froze. Am I really that bad?” Connor tries to joke, but you can hear the seriousness in his voice. He is going to think I am a complete and utter idiot now.

“Damn that’s why. Connor go inside for a minute I’ll bring Emma inside in a second after I have spoken to her.” Connor leaves and Jayna stands in front of me. Without saying a word, she wraps her arms around me and I wrap mine around her suddenly being able to move again.

“What am I going to do?” I whisper weakly.

“What is your heart telling you to do?”

“Say yes but Brad…”

“Than say yes. Bradley can get used to the idea just like he did before and he knows Connor so he may take it better but stop thinking about your brother for once a and start to think about yourself. Are you forever going to do whatever you brother wants you to do even if you don’t want to do it? No, so why are you doing it now? If he said jump off a cliff would you do it?” I shake my head. “Exactly so stop doing what your brother wants you to do and do what you want to do. You’re in charge of your life not him.”

“But every time in the past.” I fade off.

“Please don’t dwell on the past not everyone is going to be like Jake or Sam. They are old news and you can clearly tell Connor is different from them. He isn’t going to treat you like dirt. And if it makes you feel any better than Brad already likes Connor.” I nod.

“Thank you and sorry. I just panicked.”

“I know.” Jayna smiles. “Now let’s get inside, you can say yes, he can leave and you can tell me all about it.” I giggle and nod my head again. I follow my friend inside. We hear Zoey and Connor talking and I tense slightly. Jayna rubs my arm knowing why and smiles comfortingly at me. We walk into the room that Connor and Zoey are in. Immediately they both look in our direction. “Zoey.” Jayna moves her head signalling that they should leave the room. I walk over to Connor as they leave.

“I am so sorry I froze out there Connor I didn’t mean for that to happen it's just that. Well. Things.”

“Are you okay now though?” I nod. “You know you can talk to me whenever about whatever don’t you?”

“You might want to take a seat.” We both sit down facing each other. “The reason why I froze out there isn’t because I don’t like you or anything like that. When Brad joined the band with James he told me there was one rule. ‘Never date any of the band members’ because he was protecting me. In the past, there were two guys. Sam and Jake. I dated both of them, at different times obviously, but I didn’t have very good experiences with them. Sam cheated on me with Zoey and when we found out we fell out for months but we realised we needed to  stick together so we are friends again now, but that still doesn’t change the fact that he cheated on me. Then there was Jake, he was one of Brad’s friends, hence the rule. We dated and Brad didn’t mind but he and Jake fell out over something and he made my life hell so he could get to Brady because he knew how close we are. Brad has been really protective of me since.” I take a deep breath as I recall the memories. “When you asked me out. I know you are different to Sam and Jake, but the memories just caused me to freeze.”

“I had no idea. They are really big jerks to treat you like that. I’m sorry Emma.”

“It isn’t your fault. I know you are different to them. Does that question still stand?”

“Emma Rose Simpson. Will you be my girlfriend? I promise with all my heart that I will treat you better than those jerks.” I giggle slightly which makes Connor smile more.

“Of course I will.” We hug and Connor pulls back, cups my face and places a gentle kiss on my lips. His lips are soft, but there is no tingling that happens in stories or films. Heck it is only a fiction thing this is reality and I am kissing Connor who cares.

Hey guys

I know this is only a small chapter but trust me it is an important one for future chapters because info given in this chapter will be needed for future chapters i.e. Sam and Jake info ha-ha. Well, anyway there you have it Cemma are now going out. Aww.
