Riptide

The riptide has found me and thrown me
Into the churning waves that froth
Like rabid beasts with liquid jaws
And craggy rocks that tear like claws
Whirlpools dance below me
Force me to spin with them, round and round
Drowning in the music of my own screams
That hull my skull and pain my brain
Creating submerged hurricanes
My oars have floated far from my reach
My boat has breached, my life jacket
Is all I have, but every beach
Is a thousand miles from me
And the ocean water is soaking into me
Consuming me, making me bloom
With fear of the darkness that looms
The sun sets on the rim on the sea
And it's gold and red and almost
Mockingly beautiful
No matter how far I stretch my arms I am a sketch
Desperately trying
To find my way back to reality
Out of the sea
