In the big cities,
The only stars are the windows
Of apartment buildings and hotels
The rooms glowing, terrestrial lights
All stacked and aligned.
Joined by the metal frames between them
Out here,
The stars are a jumbled mess in the sky
Sometimes they shy away behind the clouds
But tonight they flicker at us flirtatiously
These stars that are so far away
But you feel like you can pluck one
Straight out of the sky
And lock it inside your heart
Until it falls.
