She smiles like a dandelion
Scruffy yellow tufts with roots growing deep in the packed soil,
A stem poking through a web of concrete cracks.
Her little leaves collect drops of sunlight
Just as well as a tree's.
Legs go by like mobile towers
And she is not afraid.
Shoes may nonchalantly trample her
Into the sidewalk she sprouts from
But she never fades
One day she will grow as tall as she can be
Each petal will fold into a wish
And float away in the wind
But she will not be gone.
She will be wrapped around the world,
Caressing the earth in a golden cloak.
