She used to let words escape her mouth
To fly off like birds
Being released from cages
They plucked wriggling worms from the loamy soil,
Began to build their homes in the trees,
Sing their anthems from the branches.
They would also perch on the shoulders of the townspeople
Whisper messages into their ears,
Strum their eardrum strings.
Sometimes, they were swatted away.
Sometimes, they were allowed to stay.
And sometimes, they got bored and strayed.
They fluttered throughout the sky like plasma particles
Frenzying frantically, never freezing for a fleeting moment.
Which is why
She's locked them up again
Stuffed hem away
So they ear her mind apart instead
Paint her bones red,
Peck at her membranes til they peel away
And she started becoming as birdbrained
As everyone said she was.
