Kite

When you hold my hand, you are gripping
The string of a kite holding tight, never slipping
My heart skips beats
And I feel like I am flying
Not a chance of my happiness dying
Not when you hold me tight
The light dances in our eyes even at night
As love tends to create some kind of bioluminescence
That maybe only poets can see
I am a kite, delighted to be yours
Stretching into the clouds to sip the rain
But I don't need to reach for the sun
Because you love me,
And you are not above me
And what kind of celestial body can give me more life than you?
You keep me awake at night, my light
Shining into my eyes so I can't sleep
So the sand cannot seep through the cracks
Visions of you keep leaving and coming back
Like waves, saving me from bad dreams
By giving me good ones that I am living
I am your kite
And if I get tangled in a tree,
We will laugh and work to set me free
To roam in the breeze
To taste the stars
To stray far from the smoke and cars
I'll be your kite for however long
You might want me to be
Which I hope is forever,
Because when I am with you,
I can fly.
Before I met you,
I was a tattered rhombus in the attic
Of old relics and memories
My string was knotted, so long forgotten
Until you came and dusted me off
Sure it was a bit rough at first
But you sewed me up, gave me a better string
And allowed my heart to spread its wings
When I am with you, it feels like flight
I am your kite,
And you are my guiding light.
