"Mei!" She heard her name being called out the second before she collided with another body, her knee scraping against the rough concrete.
"Ouch." Mei winced, then got up on both her feet, her eyes immediately searching for the tennis racket that had flew out of her hands and the tennis ball she had failed to hit.
Mei turned to whoever she had crashed into, and instantly grew embarrassed when a boy that looked to be her age with light brown hair was rubbing his back. He was dressed in the school's basketball uniform and Mei cursed at herself. She was a very narrow-minded person, and since her encounter with their captain, Imayoshi Shoichi, Mei expected the whole team to be total douchebags.
"I'm sorry!" They yelled out at the same time and bowed simultaneously, resulting in a loud knock of their foreheads.
Mei rubbed her head, trying to ease the pain.
"Why are you apologising?" Mei asked, the boy's eyes widening. He opened his mouth and somehow Mei knew what he was going to say, "Don't apologise! It's just, I bumped into you! Why are you the one apologising, it should be me!"
Mei waved her left hand around and winced immediately as a sharp pain spread throughout her wrist.
"Ah!" She clutched wrist gently."Wah, I'm sorry!" Mei glared at the boy, "Sorry- We need to get you to the infirmary!"
Both of them was now seated in the infirmary, Mei on the bed with the nurse attending her left wrist and the boy sitting worried on a plastic chair.
"There!" The nurse secured the bandage, "Your wrist was sprained from the fall you took. It took most of the impact but you're lucky that your knee was just scraped. If it was the one taking more of the impact than you could've broken your leg."
Mei nodded and thanked the nurse who had left. She looked at her wrist, holding it carefully. The swelling was visible under the bandage and the skin around it was tinged red.
The nurse came back in with an ice pack to soothe her skin.
"I'm-" Mei lifted her right hand to stop him from apologising.
She sighed then looked up at the boy, grinning. He looked surprised. A sprain like that would've hurt.
"Doesn't it hurt?" He asked, and looked afraid of the answer.
"Of course it does, but not so much now. Thanks for taking me to the infirmary..." Mei trailed off as she tried to remember his name. Did I even ask for it? she thought.
"Sakurai Ryou." The boy finished her sentence.
"Thanks Sa-kun!" Sakurai blushed at the nickname Mei had supposedly assigned for him.
"And stop apologising, it's annoying. Don't apologise for that." Mei stuck her tongue out at him.
