Aomine lay staring up at the sky, clouds decorating the wide expanse of blue. He honestly loved coming up to the roof, although majority of the time he would be sleeping. It was quiet and peaceful, a place Aomine could escape to.

His eyes were gradually closing, but before Aomine could fall asleep, the clattering of the door opening woke him up. He watched silently at the figure who had interrupted him.

Dirty blonde hair flowed against the wind. Interested, Aomine stared as the girl leaned her elbows on the railing, her hands cupping her chin. It was like this for a few minutes until Aomine coughed.

The girl instantly turned to the noise. Hazel eyes stared into blue. Ruby Slade. Her expression was calm for a second, before it hardened into a sharp glare. It was as if Ruby was trying to kill Aomine with her eyes. He smirked, liking the idea of irritating her.

"You look stupid." She said bluntly, but the insult didn't affect him. Ruby sent Aomine one more glare before leaving the roof.

The next day, Ruby was collecting her slippers from her locker. She put them on and looked up, startled. Aomine was leaning against the locker beside hers.

"You don't look as good today." Ruby rolled her eyes in annoyance. She truthfully didn't get much sleep last night due to her parents arguing.

"Thanks, it means a lot to hear that. My heart warms from your compliment." She replied sarcastically, before turning to leave.

Aomine watched as she walked off. Imayoshi showed up beside him. "Yo, Aomine, why are you talking to Ruby Slade? Found a girl you like?"

Aomine grumbled and left Imayoshi alone, not even bothering to give an answer.

At lunch, Aomine left for the roof, not surprised to find Ruby already there eating her lunch. He grinned and walked up to her, seating himself opposite her. Ruby ignored his presence and continued to eat. Aomine reached for her food but his hand was slapped away with a pair of chopsticks.

"Don't touch my bento." Ruby said harshly. Aomine laughed.

"Do you ever hang out with friends?" Aomine broke the silence that had taken over. Ruby swallowed the food she was munching and placed her lunch box down, along with her chopsticks. Pulling her legs up, she wrapped her arms around her shins and places her chin on her knees.

"Seira isn't here today, she caught a cold or something." Ruby replied.

"Anyone else? Besides Seira?" Aomine questioned.

She sighed, her eyes fixated on a large tree that swayed along the wind. "Not many people enjoy being around someone like me. I'm not the nicest person out there."

Aomine nodded silently, suddenly feeling the urge to put his arms around her.

"You might not be the nicest person, but I know for a fact that you aren't the meanest. I think you'd make a great friend." Ruby's ears turned red as she tried to hide her face in between her knees. It was the first time someone had said such a thing of her.

She looked at him, her lips curved up in a genuine smile. He'd definitely seen prettier smiles in his lifetime, but Ruby's smile was so mesmerising, captivating, something you'd want to make her do as much as you could.

And although the wind was cold and it was a time for jumpers and scarves, Aomine felt a feeling that warmed him to the core.
