| Kagami Taiga |

He missed her. He missed the time when they were seventeen, making each other failed bentos and throwing basketballs just for the fun of it.

He missed arriving to school early just to wait by her locker until she came. He missed the smile and laugh she'd make when she'd find a tall red-headed boy leaning against the locker beside hers.

And he wanted just one day. Just one day to see her again, because he missed her too much. Just one day where he could hold her and kiss her like he had done before. Just one day was enough, that's what he thought, that's what he told himself.

So she promised one day. One day where they'd reunite years later, a handshake leading to a warm embrace and then to a kiss on the forehead. That's all she left that one day to be.

But he realised, after she walked off at the late hours of that one day, without even one look back, that he'd miss her even more than he did at the moment.

He missed her lips, her sincere smile, because the one she used on that one day was something along the lines of I missed you, but this shouldn't be happening and he hated that.

He found himself drowning in memories and the past, and began to lose sight of the present and future, because the one he saw didn't have her in it. And he didn't want that. He wanted a future where he could meet her at the altar with a lovestruck smile, he wanted a future where he'd come home from work to find his kids running around playfully and her kissing him welcome home.

So just one day wasn't enough, it wasn't even close to enough, because enough was her and him forever, and just one day was nowhere near decades.

He called her, in the early morning of the day after that one day, because he could remember her number better than his own address.

Hello?

Her voice sounded wide awake. Of course, he thought, she's always up early before anyone else.

Taiga, why are you calling?

He didn't want that. He just wanted Taiga said with a smile, nothing else, as if she understood that he just wanted to hear her voice, he just wanted to talk. He didn't want a question right after, especially why are you calling?, because that meant that she didn't understand. That yesterday was officially the end in her mind.

I can't take it. I'm going crazy without you.

There was a long moment of silence, where just the sound of breathing could be heard from both sides of the receiver. He had forgotten. He was too hungover from his own heart ache that he had forgotten about hers. She was hurting as well. She was trying her best not to reminisce, to move on and not live in the memories of something that had come to an end.

But she loved him, her seventeen self had given her everything for a relationship that she was trying to forget.

She missed purposely leaving later in the morning, even though she woke up especially early, to give him the chance to wait by her locker until she came. She missed his happy laugh and goofy smile when he saw her walking towards him.

She missed, but tried her best to forget and him coming back was the first and last thing she wanted.

Taiga-

Just one day wasn't enough.

Taiga, why are you doing this?

Because I love you. I've tried my best to stop, but I love you, (your name), and seeing you for just one day after years completely ruined me.

It was your idea for just one day. And that was what I promised.

I miss you.

This was his last chance, that's what he told himself. Because now, after hearing her pained voice, he finally thought about her feelings and her being hurt was the last thing he wanted.

Maybe it was really the end. Maybe you had completely given up on being with him.

I miss you too.

He thought he heard wrong. He thought that maybe you had said something completely different to what he heard.

I miss you too, Taiga.. I miss you so much.

So they met for another day. Where a awkward handshake became a familiar hug and then became a love-filled kiss, something they both missed.

It wasn't just one day, where coffee grew cold and conversations began just to end up dying.

This day led to other days. This day led to weeks, months, years.

This day led to her crying with him knelt down on one knee.

This day led to him meeting her at the altar with a love-struck smile.

This day led to him coming home from work to find his kids running around playfully and her kissing him

welcome home, Taiga.
