"No." You spoke in monotone, "Now, will you leave me alone?"

"Not until you agree." Kiyoshi replied cheekily. If he was pushing your buttons ten minutes ago, now he was punching them with a hammer.

It was only a few more minutes after when you turned angrily to the boy trailing close behind you.

"For the last time, I'm not becoming the manager for your stupid basketball team!" Your outburst surprised yourself but there was no change in Kiyoshi's expression.

"Do you not like basketball?" He cocked his head slightly to the side, looking undeniably cute.

Memories you disliked surfaced, short pangs of the pain you had suffered both physically and mentally attacked your body. Discomfort coursed through your left shoulder, right wrist and your left leg, the knee being afflicted the most. Such flashbacks were so painful you could still remember and feel the suffering of years ago, and you felt the need to collapse.

Shaking off the horrible feeling, you pivoted away from his gaze, tears stinging your (eye colour) eyes.

"I don't." Afraid that you'd choke on your words, you continued down the road, clutching you bag tightly.

"Why?" His soft voice brought the overflow of tears.

"Is it any of your business?" You murmured almost inaudibly.

"Why do you not like such an amazing sport? Basketball should create happy memories, why are you so pained with unhappy ones? I know you used to play, I've heard how good you were. If you really loved basketball, you'd be able to look past the hurt." Kiyoshi spoke soothingly.

"I love basketball from the bottom of my heart. It was the only thing I enjoyed when I was a child growing up. I was in one of the strongest teams in middle school. Basketball became my life. Don't you think I'd still be playing?" You gave no attempt to rid the tears that fell. By now you were exhausted. Kiyoshi was a good guy, he deserved an explanation.

"What do you mean? Can you not-"

"Play anymore? I can't. I was injured terribly in a match, but it wasn't something that could stop me from playing. I rested for two months or so before I played again." You laughed bitterly, "Even the doctor had told me to wait a while after I appear to be recovered, just to be cautious. But I loved to play so much, you know? So I went back to dunking basketballs immediately. And then I was bashed up badly in another match. I couldn't move my leg for weeks, and my both my arms had a cast.

"I wasn't able to play anymore. Anything like dunking a ball could tear my shoulder. I may never be able to use my leg again if I play, it's too dangerous."

Kiyoshi stood silent, eyes watching you like a hawk.

"So to answer your questions?" You paused in your path, "I love basketball, but at the same time it hurts. I don't know what I'd do if I was watching others play it happily and competitively, just like I was able to do before. It's dangerous for me to play basketball, there are parts of me that has become so fragile I could snap like a stick."

Kiyoshi walked up in front of you, looking down at you with hard eyes. His stare down felt like hours before he spoke.

"Not being able to play shouldn't stop you from enjoying basketball. Many managers aren't even able to play it, but they excel in it, why can't you?" The thought of managing a basketball team almost took away your breath. Basketball was already a crazy idea for you, managing could be ten times worse.

"(Your name), you're not even paying attention." Kiyoshi chuckled.

"I can tell you that it won't be as bad as you think. You'll enjoy basketball again, I can guarantee that. (Your name), I promise that in the future, if I ever get injured in anyway that stops me from playing, I will keep loving basketball no matter what, just to prove to you that it's possible. So, for now, please believe and have hope. (Your name), become our manager?"

And that Kiyoshi Teppei kept his word.
