You couldn't believe this. Just like the many fantasy books you had read, an angel and human were in love. And although everything you had read told you it was highly forbidden, the cliche plot twist was inevitable.

You stared silently and the two small, red scars on your boyfriend's back, where beautiful, white feathered wings used to protrude. They were long and jagged. You didn't want this to happen in the beginning, but the angel always fights for the human's love, and so without much choice, the human falls deeper in love. They battle side by side to fight for their future.

Many times you had read about how the angel ends up dying, maybe even the human, or the human turns out to be an angel. The shock you had experienced when the one you loved appeared at your door, bloody and exhausted, was something you never wanted to go through again.

Unconsciously, your hand reached up and your index finger gently traced the scars on Kise's back. You were lucky that he hadn't broken enough laws that he would be executed. Instead, Kise had taken the chance to tell the Angel Elders that he wanted to be rid of the large, so called 'burdens' on his back. It was a definite shock to everyone, since he was a much loved angel that had the looks of a model and the built body of a basketball player.

A wingless angel was almost equivalent to being a mere human (besides the unnatural good looks), and even though that was what Kise had aimed for, being a wingless angel was terrible for the angel them self. Every angel was proud of their wings, wings basically said if they were an angel or not. Without wings, an angel's power and strength decreased immensely.

All wingless angels were sent to live in Earth, since without their wings they were unable to survive in the angel world. However, in the books, wingless angels that were sent to Earth were dubbed as fallen angels, but in reality, they were just angels that became human. The Angel Elders disapproved of such actions, but they let them pass. Instead, falling in love with a human was forbidden.

Losing your wings are the result of either a punishment or the request of the angel them self. Falling in love with a human is forbidden. Consequences include confinement, loss of your wings, or execution. Angels and Humans are not meant to be together, however, the angel can choose if they would like to lose their wings and become a human.

You felt Kise stir under your hand and you immediately pulled away, afraid that you had injured him somehow.

"Babe, why are you crying?" Kise turned over and mumbled, his thumb wiping off tears that you had no idea they even existed.

"Just... thinking." You smiled sadly. Your relationship scared you. Kise had given up so much just to be with you, even a part of his life. For him, falling out of love was possible. What if he regretted his choice of becoming a human? What if he hated you for being the reason why he had to lose is wings?

"About what?" He was no longer half-awake, and the golden gaze he placed upon you made you feel like you were melting.

Your hand cupped his cheek, letting a flow of tears fall on the pillow you lay your head on.

"Don't you ever want to leave? Go back to your home?" You choked on your words, closing your eyes at the possibility of him leaving.

"(Your name), why are you thinking like this?" His comforting voice made you cry more. The thought of losing the chances to hear Kise's voice was too hard for you to comprehend.

"You spent your whole life as an angel and just threw that away for... for me. Kise, I want you to be happy." Your voice diminished to a whisper.

"I am happy, because of you. Yes, I do miss being an angel, I do wish I could have my wings back," You gritted your teeth, "But all that is done and gone now. I want to live my life with you, get married, grow old with you. I won't regret a single thing, as long as you want to be with me. So, (Your name), please only cry joyful tears from now on. These scars on my back are the memories of something I will never regret.

It doesn't matter if I can't be an angel ever again, because I have my own right in front of me."
