—Just please... Don't start a discussion or anything like that -Chris asks me-

I roll my eyes and let out a sigh in annoyance. How the hell am I supposed to act like everything's okay if this woman's presence bugs the hell out of me?

—I can't promise anything, Christopher. I don't know if she'll get on my nerves -I shrug-

—Pretty please -he pouts and grabs my hands- Look, I totally understand you, I know you're not the jealous type but if she makes uncomfortable comments, just, ignore her... Carly just gave birth, she shouldn't go through an stressful situation. You're her sister-in-law, she's her friend.

—But she's kind of messing with an hormonal pregnant woman -I growl-

He lightly chuckles and shakes his head, smiling at me

—Look, if she says anything else that makes you feel uncomfortable or angry, I'll hug and kiss you until she realises her comments are inappropriate. Deal?

—Let me think about it for a second -I joke laughing, he winks at me-

Lisa laughs as well as she's in the kitchen with us, listening to the whole story. She hands me a cup of chocolate milk and makes me feel as a little spoiled girl for a moment.

—It's hard to control ourselves when we're pregnant -she adds amusingly, then she proceeds to drink from her cup-

—Are you encouraging Gabbie to burst out on her, mom? -His eyebrow is now raised at his mom, how's looking at him with a funny expression-

—I'm not encouraging her to do anything... I'm just saying I totally get her. -she winks at me-

—Ohh, I know you're on my side and I love you for that -I tell her-

We share a laugh that's interrupted by Robert walking into the kitchen, he looks at us expectant and we couldn't help but chuckle a little bit more.

—I just know you're conspiring, I just know it...

—I'm not part of that conspiracy, dad. I'm fighting the dark forces.

—Ohh, come on! We're just messing with you, you know I won't be capable of taking anything too far. Actually, I think it's more than enough with what I said back at the hospital.

Robert shakes his head and smiles

—Carly knows her friend was saying uncomfortable things -he tells us- she commented it to her

Scott realises we were "reunited" at the kitchen, and of course didn't think twice to come in.

—What's the beef? -he asks louder than he should've-

—Shhh -Lisa scolds him- you're so indiscreet sometimes

—Sometimes all the time -Chris rolls his eyes-

—What do you know that I don't know? -he ignores the previous comments-

—Nothing -I roll my eyes playfully-

—That Carly's friend is being disrespectful to Chris and Gabbie -Lisa says-

He gasps and leans his torso onto the counter top, ready to hear all the gossiping.

—Throwing hints that I ignore, it's not a big deal -Chris brushes it off-

—If a man ever starts to throw hints at Shawn in front of me, I think I'd kick his ass -he sassily says- but you shouldn't be kicking asses since you're pregnant for god's sake! Just ignore her, at the end of the day, you're the one who's his girlfriend

—Oh God, this family's insane -Robert murmurs making us chuckle-

~

—She looks adorable, you look adorable -I say admiring the lovely view in front of me-

Finally, we convinced Christopher to hold his niece. At first, he was freaking out about how fragile she seems, but then he gained confidence in himself, and now he won't let go of her.

—I can't wait to see Aurora and our daughter together -he says without taking his eyes off her-

—Christmas will feel more magical than they already are -Carly says- yesterday, I was daydreaming of seeing Aurora opening up her Christmas presents with such joy. I'm incredibly ready for it.

—We also want to see our granddaughters opening the gifts up! Even though they actually are the Christmas joy. -Robert says-

—We could reunite this Christmas at our house -Chris looks at me- what do you think?

—Me? I'm delighted with that idea

—Are you willing to give up your annual Christmas party? -Shanna raises an eyebrow, questioning them-

—Without hesitation -Lisa assures-

—Wow. Babies do change people.

As the Evans laugh along, my cheeks brush hard without any anticipation. If the odds are with Chris and I, we will be spending this year's holidays as an actual family—a big one. Not only our birth family but our own. Dodger, our daughter, him and I.

Quickly, a bunch of things fly through my mind: the hello's and the goodbye's with Christopher whenever he has to leave, the endlessly baking with my daughter, the walks with Dodger to the park as we look over my daughter. Taking trips to visit Massachussets and Washington together. So many little things, even the smallest details... I cannot wait to see Chris dancing around the house wearing a tutu thanks to our daughter.

—They do! -I assure her- Carly, imagine our little one's having sleepovers—I'm overloaded by cuteness by thinking about it.

—I'm pretty sure they'll be best friends -she tells me-

—I'm pretty sure Chris and I will be kicking plenty little boys' asses as soon as they get near our princesses -Scott says in a serious tone, but we all know he's joking-

—You cannot be so harsh on them -I say-

—But we cannot let them have dates from a young age either -Chris says- right, Aurora? You won't be dating before turning 15.

—I'm going to defend these little girls so much from you, assholes -Shanna says to her brothers-

—There'd be no need. Relax. -Chris giggles-

I was smiling at the amusing conversation, then, I feel like my whole body starts sweating cold—my feet are numb, my lower back pain aches twice as it ached before, and I feel like vomiting. The room moves too fast as I'm in slow-motion.

—Chris... -I say almost in a whisper-

But they continued to talk at each other. I start feeling like their voices are far, far away even though we're in the same bedroom.

Next thing I know: everything goes black.
