Part Eighty-eight

Toni's POV

"Guys?" Both Cheryl and I looked up and saw Betty. "Who are you on the phone with?" She asked. We both just stood there, looking at her. "Who?" She asked again. I quickly hung up the phone.

"Nobody." I said. She gave me a look of disbelief. I looked at Cheryl who looked at me. I sighed. "It was Kevin, okay?"

"It can't be. I was just talking to Kevin." She said. I sighed. Damnit!

"Jughead then." I said. She scoffed.

"One, I know that's a lie. And two, he's also with Kevin." She said. I rolled my eyes.

"Damn! We can't lie anymore." Cheryl muttered.

"So, who was it?" She asked in a serious tone. I shook my head.

"Nobody, I swear!" I said.

"Okay, keep lying to me then." She said and walked back upstairs. I sighed and looked back at Cheryl.

"This is gonna be harder than I thought." I said. She nodded.

"Let's get ahold of the guys. Tell them we did it, but we almost got caught." I said.

Betty's POV

What are they hiding from me? Are they even hiding anything from me? I don't know. I just feel like they are. They did lie to me about who they were I'm the phone with. Cause they said Kevin and Jughead. I was just on the phone with them and they were together at Pop's. I sighed to myself. There was a knock at the door.

"Come in!" I said quietly.

"Hey, Betty, Cheryl and I are leaving. If you need anything just call us." Toni said. I just nodded.

"Okay, bye." I rolled my eyes. They slowly shut the door. They are definitely hiding something from me.

Cheryl's POV

"Okay, guys. We've got something about Veronica." Toni said.

"Okay first, why were you two on the phone with Betty?" I interrupted.

"We were wondering how she was. Why?" Kevin asked.

"Well, we tried to lie to Betty when she heard we were on the phone with somebody. We saw your guys names and she told us she was just talking to you guys." Toni said. Jughead sighed.

"Sorry, girls." Kevin said. Toni just shook her head.

"Anyways, Veronica. We got ahold of her. We did what you guys said and got on Betty's phone." She said.

"Wait, how?" Kevin asked.

"She was asleep for a bit. Did you guys call her and wake her up?" I said.

"Is that why she sounded tired?" Jughead asked. I sighed and rolled my eyes.

"Whatever! What did she say?" Kevin asked.

"She is in New York. She said she'd get back to us as soon as she can." Toni said.

"Did she say anything about her fiance?" Jughead asked.

"EX!" I corrected.

"Well, if he's forcing her to marry him I'm not so su--"

"Jones, if you keep saying another word, you will regret it." I told him. He nodded and shut up.

"Okay? But, no, she didn't. There was no word about him. She only said that we couldn't help her. Really it was just us saying things about Betty. It's really nothing. And Cheryl apologizing. Which I'm proud of you for doing." She said and I lokked at her. She smiled at me and I smiled back.

"Okay, what are we gonna do now?" Kevin asked.

"I guess, wait for another call from Veronica." Toni said.

"And deal with this new teacher? Ms. What's her face? What's her name?" I asked.

"Ms. Conner?" Toni basically corrected. "Yes, but it's for Betty's sake. If she doesn't want to go to that class don't... don't make her. Maybe try and talk to her at least, but don't really push her." We all nodded.

"Yeah, we won't." Kevin said.

"Good." She said. Then, my phone buzzed. I looked at it.

"It's Betty." I said.

"What did she say?" Jughead asked.

"She asked where Toni and I are." I told them.

"Don't tell her we came to Pop's. She knows Jughead and Kevin are here." Toni said. I nodded and just told her we are on our way back now.

"Okay, Toni we better go now." I said. She nodded and we left.

Once we got back Betty was asleep.

"Well, damn! There was no point in coming back." I said with a sigh.

"Yup! Let's just get to sleep ourselves. It's eleven anyways." Toni said and I nodded.
