Clary's eyes fluttered open and she stretched her arms. She sat up and looked around. Everything was normal; the news on the TV and the light shining through the windows. But on thing was missing, Jace. The scent of pancakes, Clary's favorite breakfast food, filled the air. She got out of bed and pulled on her New York sweatshirt.
She walked into Aiden's room and he wasen't there either. She went down the stairs and entered the kitchen. There Jace was by the stove flipping pancakes with one hand and holding Aiden in the other. "What is this?" Clary said. Jace whipped around and smiled at her. "Happy Anninversary!" He yelled and kissed her cheek. When she looked down Aiden was smiling up at her with his toothless smile.
"What is all this?" Clary asked. "I got you a gift, but I didn't think you would do all this!" Tears welled in her eyes and she wrapped her arms around Jace.
"Well, I got you a present too!" Jace said. He handed her a card and small black box with a silver bow on it. She opened the card and she felt like her five year old self again on Christmas morning. She flipped open the card and the inside read:
Join me tonight at eight o'clock for a romantic anniversary dinner?
She smiled and looked at Jace, "Of course!" Then she continued to open the box.
Inside was a silver necklace with a H pendant on it. "It's beautiful!" Clary exclaimed.
Jace gently removed from the box and placed it on his wife's neck and clasped it in the back. She touched the cool metal against her chest and proceeded to, once again, kiss her lovely husband.
She took Aiden from his highchair and held him in her arms. "So where are we going tonight?" Clary asked taking a bite of her pancakes. Jace sat in the seat next to her and shoved almost an entire pancake into his mouth. After finishing he says, "That's for me to know and you to figure out!"
When six o'clock rolled around Clary was in her black jeans and boots with a light gray long selected shirt. She had her new necklace on and a bracelet the Lizzy made for her at school.
Clary walked down the stairs and saw Jace waiting for her at the bottom of the stairs.
He looked at her like he was seeing her for the first time all over again. "Clary you...you look amazing" Jace said. "Thank you! And you look pretty handsome yourself!" She replied.
They walked out the door and drove to the town center. The lamps lighting a path down a path through the square lining all the shops and restaurants.
"Come on let's walk!" Jace said opening the door for Clary and taking her hand. As they walked Clary put her arm through the crook of his arm and leaned closer to him.
As they were walking a young couple walked up to them. The girl had short brown hair and beautiful dark brown eyes, and she was wearing a Nirvana shirt with a picture of Kurt Cobain on it.
And the boy with her had short brown hair and gray eyes wearing dark jeans and and a navy blue shirt. "Excuse me Sir!" The girl asked softly, "Would you mind taking a picture of my boyfriend and I?" Jace smiled and took the phone from her hand. The boy and girl stood in front of the small antique store and the boy put his arm around the girls waist. Click.
"Thank you so much Sir, by the way my name is Grace and this is my boyfriend Caleb! I hope you guys have a good night" The girl said and smiled at them.
Clary and Jace walked some more until they reached a restaurant called l'amour.
"This is the place!" Jace said. Clary looked at him in awe. "Jace this place is so expensive. Are you sure?" She said.
He looked at her and smiled, "Clary, sweetie," He started. "I would do anything for you! So yes I want to take you to a fancy dinner! It's no big deal!" They walked in and sat down. The table was covered with a good table cloth and silver bread plates and silverware.
"Hello my name is Julianna I will be your server tonight! Is there anything I can get you folks tonight?" The waitress asked. Clary order wine and Jace ordered a water, and for their meal Clary got grilled chicken and Jace got steak. As they ate they talked about work and about how excited they were about having Aiden now and about how big Lizzy was getting. But most of all they just enjoyed being alone and together. It didn't happen much anymore between having kids and busy work schedules, so when it did come they savored every moment of it.
When they finished and Jace payed the bill Clary pulled out the gift she had gotten him and said, "Happy 5th anniversary!"
The box was heavy and Jace didn't know what to expect. But inside was the watch that a jace had been eyeing for the past five months. He kept wondering if he should buy it or if he shouldn't, so Clary took matters into her own hands and bought. "It's amazing Clary! Thank you so much!"
They walked out of the restaurant hand in hand and headed toward their car. On the way back they saw the young couple, Grace and Caleb, inside of another restaurant Grace talking and Caleb staring at her amazed.
On the ride back Clary fell asleep and Jace carried her into the house and carefully put her into their bed. After Jace brushed his teeth and watched the news before going to sleep himself. But before he nodded away into the land of dreams he leaned over to Clary and whispered, "Happy anniversary Clary. I will always love you."
