Todoroki's POV:
The bright hospital lights were suddenly turned on, dragging my slightly conscious body into consciousness. The worst part was when Endeavor spoke.
"Shoto, you should be awake by now. It's already 6am." The cruel bastard knows it's a Saturday too.
I opened my eyes and resisted the urge to glare at him, flip him off and go back to sleep. Instead, I looked around to see that Fuyumi was there too. Her hair was pulled into a low ponytail, her go to hairstyle for when she didn't bother with it.
"Good morning Shoto!" She said with a kind smile. I could tell she was tired too. "The nurse will be coming soon to help with the whole discharging process." Fuyumi explained as she walked over to me. Her eyes were dark as she lightly brushed my hair off of my face.
I looked over at Endeavor, watching as he crossed his arms. Once Fuyumi was done messing with my hair, I slowly sat up.
As soon as I was done sitting the bed up, a nurse walked in. She had a clipboard in her arm. She walked in swiftly and shut the door behind her.
"I'm here to get you discharged. I just need to explain a few things about your injuries and then you'll be able to leave." She said, adjusting her glasses.
"Thanks." I murmured quietly. I watched as Endeavor and my sister stood off to the side, out of the nurse's way. She explained some of the medications she was sending me home with and told me how to care for my burns. It's a little sad that I already know pretty much everything she's saying.
"Alright, I think I've got everything covered. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to call this number." She said, handing me a business card.
"I actually do have a question." I said, which surprised her a little.
"Yes?"
"When can I return to work? I work in a cat cafe as a chef, so I don't do any heavy lifting or anything like that."
"I supposed you can return to work in a few days. As long as you work fewer hours while you're healing and take it easier, then I suppose it'll be alright. But you should rest for at least two more days before returning to work." She advised.
"Thank you."
"If that's all of the questions you have, then you're free to go." The nurse said, backing away from the bed. I pulled my legs off of the bed and to the floor, using my right hand to push my upper body up. I kept my left arm from pushing me up because that's the side where my fractured rib was. I stood up slowly, trying not to show much weakness in front of Endeavor. Once I was up, I looked over to Fuyumi. She was holding a small bag.
"I brought you some real clothes to change into." She said, holding out the bag for me.
"Thanks Fuyumi." I took the bag from her and walked into the bathroom, shutting the door behind me.
I changed as quickly as I could without hurting myself too badly, but it was unavoidable with my socks and shoes. I sat down to put them on, but it hurt when my ribs touched my thigh.
Once I was done changing, I walked out of the bathroom with the bag in my hand. We walked out of the room and to the car. When we got to the car, I got into the backseat behind Endeavor. I pulled the seatbelt over my body and put it into the buckle with my right hand. I let out a breath and pulled my phone out of my pocket. I started texting Izuku.
(S: Shoto, I: Izuku)
S: Hey, I just got discharged out of the hospital and I'm heading home now.
I: Already?? I thought the doctors would want you to stay at least another day.
S: Yeah, if my father was anyone other than the #2 hero, then I'd still be in that hospital bed. But I'll be fine, so don't worry about me.
I: It's a little hard not to worry about you, Sho. Especially after everything you just went through.
S: I'll be okay ^^. Do you know how Kirishima is? I know this had to be hard on him.
I: I'm not sure exactly. I haven't been able to talk to Kacchan much lately and Kirishima isn't answering his phone.
S: Oh, jeez..I wish the villains hadn't involved him. I can handle something like that and be mentally okay, but poor Kirishima has probably never delt with something like this.
I: I just hope he'll be okay soon ^^
S: Me too.
I: So when are you allowed to go back to work?
S: The nurses said a few days, but I might try to go to work early. I promise to take it easy though.
I: Okay. Just don't push yourself too hard!
S: I won't.I turned off my phone, keeping my soft smile to myself. By the time I looked up, we were home. Once the car was off, I unbuckled my seatbelt and slowly made my way out of the car, keeping my left arm close to my chest. I followed Endeavor and my sister into the house, shutting the door with my right hand. I silently thanked the world for letting me still use my right arm. As soon as I finished my silent thanks, Endeavor turned around to face me.
"We're going to train today. We'll start at 9am, so you have until then to get ready." He told me, his voice stern enough to chase away any protests we had. With his message hanging in the air, he walked off to his office, leaving my sister and I in the hall.
"I don't know what he's thinking." Fuyumi said once he was out of earshot.
"He's thinking that I'm too weak. That if I don't keep training even with an injury, that all of his work will be for nothing." I told her, my voice laced with ice.
"He's out of his mind. First he pulls you out of the hospital a day early and now he wants you to start training again? You'll never be able to heal properly."
"Try telling that to him. That's why I'm going to work tomorrow. So I don't have to deal with him."
"You'll be okay?"
"It's better than being here." I responded.
"Yeah, I guess you're right about that."
After she spoke, I heard soft footsteps and the sudden smell of coffee. I saw Natsuo walk out into the hallway, his snowy white hair sticking up in every direction. He looked at us, a little surprised, but smiled tiredly. I couldn't help but laugh at his goofy looking smile. That is, until I felt a sharp pain in my ribs.
"Ow! I can't even laugh? Jeez, that sucks." I murmured, my hand hovering over my ribs.
"I'm sorry, Shoto." Natsuo said as he walked closer, taking a long sip from his coffee mug.
"It's whatever. There's really nothing I can do. Except sleep. That would be nice." I said, resisting the urge to yawn.
"Maybe you should sleep until it's time to train. It'll be easier if you're not dragging your feet the whole time." Fuyumi suggested.
"Yeah, that sounds like a good idea. Goodnight then." I said to them before walking to my room. I could hear them talking to each other quietly, but I didn't really bother to listen to what they were saying.
Once I got to my room, I shut the door and sat down on my bed. I set an alarm on my phone for 8:45 and laid down on my back. I remembered the nurse saying something about hugging a pillow so I'm not just laying here. I picked up one of my pillows and laid it on my chest, hugging it with my arms. I wasn't entirely comfortable, but it was good enough. I closed my eyes and soon fell into a light sleep.
Hey my little kittens! It took a while for this chapter to come out, sorry about that. I've been super busy with school, but now I'm done! I'm hoping that I'll have more time to work on this story, but who knows? I'm really good at procrastinating XD.
It's kinda convenient when you can use your own injuries for your story instead of having to do research. I don't think I've actually fractured my rib (I probably just bruised mine), but it sucks. I actually never got my injury checked out, but I'm doing fine ^^. I got really bad rib pains last week, which was really useful for this story. It sucked that I couldn't use my right hand much though. I had to open doors with my left hand, which is a weird thing for me (even though I'm left-handed XD).
But that's enough on that. At the time I'm publishing this chapter, I'm still quarantining, but everything is slowly starting to open up again. My rink should've opened the other day, but I'm not sure yet. How about you guys? Are you all still quarantining or are you starting to see things open up again? Regardless, I hope you guys are staying safe and healthy! I hope all of this will be over soon and we can return to our normal lives.
I hope you enjoyed this chapter and will come back for the next one! Bye bye for now, my little kittens~.
