CHAPTER 26: THE CONFESSION

WHAT IS it that I should stand up? I'm awake but I refuse to open my eyes.

Wala naman akong gagawin kaya mas mabuting manatili na lang na nakapikit.

Isa pa, hindi ko narinig na tumunog ang phone ko, ibig sabihin walang nakakaalala sa'kin ngayong araw.

You're making it a big deal now?

Natatawa ako sa sarili ko. Bakit ko nga ba hinihintay na may makaalala sa'kin? It's not as if I'm used to it.

"Mmh, parang amoy sinangag na kanin," bulong ko. Siguro,nagugutom na ako 'di ko lang napapansin. If there was a thing as such.

Napaupo ako bigla. "Am I dreaming? The scent is so real!" I could smell onions and garlic being fried.

Tumayo ako at lumabas. Sa tingin ko, gutom na talaga ito.

Dumiritso ako sa kusina at muntik nang mapasigaw. There was a man standing behind me and his back was facing me.

My initial reaction was to scream but as my eyes recognized his body, I resorted to pinching my cheeks instead and nope, it was not a dream.

"Vaughnn?" I asked. Napalingon siya at ngumiti. Geez! I missed that smile---so bad.

"Gising ka na pala," he said, cheerfully. But why? How? When?

"What are you d---"

"Take a sit," he said instead. Ginawa ko naman iyon at naghain na siya ng almusal. Matapos no'n ay naupo siya sa harap ko.

"Bak---"

"I received your call," he replied. Hindi pa nga tapos ang sasabihin ko ay may sagot na siya agad.

"I just want to explain my side. And---"

"I know, you don't have to say a thing." He put some rice on my plate and some chicken hotdog, corned beef, and egg. Yes, this feels so good. Seems like the former us have been restored. "How have you been? I really missed having breakfast with you. Doing late night talks and hanging out to watch some movies."

"I---"

"But then you called me. I plan to give you more time but hearing your voice obliterated my resolve. I can't keep distance anymore."

Obli---what? I feel like I'm hearing a poet speaking.

"I know you don't like me yet but I just can't let you go.  I  will wait and if you will never like me back, I'll accept it whole heartedly. I'll settle still, as your friend."

Aw man, how did this great man liked me? There is nothing particular with me, just an ordinary lady.

"Act---"

"Don't be burdened, this is my choice," he said. I smiled mentally. Why would I be? We were just feeling the same. That Lilac made me realize that.

"The---"

"I just want us to go back to how we used to be." I frowned. Why is this man not letting me say anything? Seryosong-seryoso pa naman siya. Did he rehearse every lines he is throwing at me?

"And if y---"

"Stop talking nonsense Vaughnn, I like you too," I stated,bluntly. I waited for the moment for him to comprehend what I said.

"Caus---what? Did you just said that. . ."

I nodded and suppressed my laughter. Well, his eyes are wider than the usual. Pero guwapo pa rin naman siya. Ilang segundo rin  sigurong gano'n ang hitsura niya.
