I was watching the National League Division Series between the Washington Nationals and the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Nationals defeated the powerhouse Dodgers. A comment was made about the Nationals that resonated in my head. He said the team had to find their character. Let's dive deep, shall we?

Imagine life is a stage. We all have to choose a character in life to play. You have observed many characters along your life's journey. You have met teachers, you have met coaches, you have seen doctors and lawyers and construction people. What is the best character that fits you? Are you forced, by life, to be a certain character? Do you like the character you are currently playing? You see, you will meet people that portray these characters throughout your life. These people will play the character that you are interested in playing. Maybe you are impressed with this character. Maybe something happens that inspires you to play this character. These people are playing the role of that character. They are modeling the role of that character. You could say they are role models. It is your job once you find your character to develop that character, by taking bits and piece of how that character you observed modeled that role.

You see I played the character of a coach for many years. I had the opportunity to work with some outstanding coaches. I played for some outstanding coaches. Along my journey, I took different things that they did well and used it in my character development.

Did the Nationals find their character as a scrappy team that would not go down without a fight? Yes, It took some tough times to get there. They almost pulled the plug on the coaching staff, when the record started off at 19-31. Character finding and development takes time and sometimes it is not pretty, but it is oh so sweat. I wonder, when you find your character in life, will you begin to win more than you lose?

What is the formula to finding your character? I would say, if you are getting a calling from God answer it. This calling will stay after you until you do something about it. If you do answer it, do not look back. You might be in a family in which someone is modelling the character you wanted to portray. Nevertheless, whatever the reason, whatever the motivation, make it yours and love it.
