Most people try avoiding pain. Unfortunately, pain is a great teacher. The paddling has been part of the learning process for many years and then it stopped. As an educator, I understand that it takes the average human 21 times of hearing something before they learn it. When something is painful it usually takes one time. I will tell a child; do not touch the stove it will burn them. The child touches the stove it burns them, they know not to touch the stove. A cowboy cannot get on the back of a bucking bronco and talk it into stopping. He will put a bit in its mouth, which causes the horse to avoid the pain moving towards the pain in its mouth to stop the pain. Please do not get me wrong, I am not talking about abuse and I am not talking about it being the only way, I am just saying it is a great teacher.
