Phil sat up in his bed and rested his head against the headboard whilst letting out a long sigh. He glanced down at his sleeping boyfriend and guilt flipped in his stomach. What was he going to do?
His phone vibrated on his side unit and he smiled when he saw Dan's name pop up.
Dan: 'Hey, I can't sleep.'
The two had been texting each other for roughly a week now and Phil enjoyed talking to the brunette, who started off as a blonde. The fact that colours were changing all around him scared Phil, because it meant Dan was right. He was in a false love with Jacob.
Phil replied to Dan: 'Neither can I.'
Phil thought back to the day colours started to appear in his life; he'd known Jacob ever since they were toddlers, so he thought it was perfect. They were in high school when it happened and they only ever spent time with one another, so it made sense to Phil that Jacob would be his soulmate, but clearly he was wrong. So, so wrong.
Dan: 'What did you get up to today?'
Phil: 'I wanted to watch some anime, but Jacob isn't into it, so I couldn't. What about you?'
Dan: 'I love anime, what were you going to watch?'
Phil smiled at his phone. He couldn't believe Dan also loved anime, as well as also loving to play horror games and having a weird interest in the Japanese culture. All of these Phil loved too; he'd always dreamed of going to Japan, but Jacob wasn't interested. When he'd told Dan, Dan said he'd love to go with him instantly.
Phil: 'I'm rewatching Tokyo Ghoul at the minute.'
Dan: 'No way! That's my favourite. I want to have an anime marathon now.'
Phil wanted to have an anime marathon more than anything, but not with Jacob. He looked at Jacob again and saw he was still sound asleep. He found himself beginning to hate the colours he saw with Jacob; the fact he knew they were fake made him angry. Why was that even a possibility? How could life be so cruel?
The only other person Phil could confide in was his brother, who lived in Australia currently with his soulmate. He glanced at the clock working out that it would be ten am there, so he should be awake by now. He tiptoed out of his bedroom and into the lounge before shutting the door quietly behind him and opened up Skype.
"Hey!" his brother, Harry smiled. "It's good to see you, bro!"
Phil smiled halfheartedly at the camera and sighed, "It's good to see you too.'
"What's wrong?" Harry frowned with concern.
"Is it that obvious?" Phil rolled his eyes.
Harry laughed, "Phil it's like what, one am where you are and you're calling me. Not to also mention the fact that your eyes aren't shining like they usually do."
"I'm in a pickle, Harry," Phil sighed. "I found my soulmate the other day. My real one."
Harry frowned, "What? You're making no sense."
"Jacob isn't my real soulmate. This guy called Dan is," Phil exclaimed, the panic was beginning to set in now.
His phone vibrated - it was Dan.
Dan: 'Maybe we should get together to have an anime marathon one day.'
Phil held his phone up to the computer screen and said, "We're chatting like this is totally normal, but it's not Harry and I'm seriously freaking out!"
"Woah, lil bro calm down," Harry said calmly. "Who is this Dan?"
"I ran into him one day like physically and then saw him that same day in Starbucks," Phil thought back to that day, which was when he first noticed colours were changing. "He's really nice and funny oh and really smart. He's into anime too!"
