Two days, twelve hours and forty minutes.

That's how long I had until prom, which meant roughly two days to get a date. Two days to ask out Chris Kendall.

Two days.

I'm not going to do it. I'm just going to go alone. Yeah that's fine. Who cares if I don't have a date.

Phil will have a date though, which means I'll be a third wheel, because Phil is going to be with Dan.

Oh my life is so depressing.

"Pj!" Phil called, breaking me out of my trance. "I called your name like five times."

I shook my head slightly and finally closed my locker before turning around to face a beaming Phil. He looked far too happy for a Monday morning, which meant he had already spoken to Dan.

My eyes fell to his jaw, which was covered in concealer to hide the deepening bruise from Larkin. Dan had suggested the concealer and even bought it for Phil, so that he didn't have to explain to the cashier why he was buying it. He's so sweet.

"You're chipper for a Monday morning," I sighed, as we began to make our way down the corridor to first lesson, which just happened to have Chris in it too.

"I have a lot to be chipper for, Peej," Phil smiled brightly. "So much."

I rolled my eyes at his love smitten ways and turned into our classroom: english.

There sat Chris in all his glory. His smile reached his eyes, as we made eye contact and it felt as if butterflies were about to erupt from my mouth, but I held it together and said a simple, "Hello."

"Hey, Peej. How are you?" Chris smiled.

I smiled in return, as I took my seat beside him, "I'm good thank you, you?"

"I'm great, Pj," he took a deep breath and glanced out of the window at the passing flock of birds. "Aren't they gorgeous?"

I tore my eyes from the side of his head to the many birds outside of the window and Phil nudged my arm suggestively, but I shook him off and took in the moment. I wish I had the confidence to just ask Chris, because what is the worst that can happen? Except him publicly humiliating me in front of the whole school and then never living it down for the rest of my life.

"So, Chris," Phil started with a smirk playing on his lips. "Have you got a date to prom yet?"

Chris snapped his head back around to us and a light blush rose to his cheeks as he stuttered, "N-no, I h-haven't."

Phil's foot kicked my shin under the table causing me to stifle a yell. I turned my head to give Phil a glare before returning my attention back to Chris with a smile on my lips.

"Pj hasn't got a date yet either," Phil grinned, whilst winking at me. "He's waiting for the perfect guy."

"Oh," Chris' tone saddened at Phil's words and part of me had to hold the other part back from punching Phil. "Who is your perfect guy then?"

My eyes darted to his and I could feel the blush rising to my cheeks, "Oh, I guess funny and smart, but not Einstein smart. He can't be short, because off my height and I guess similar interests. I'm not that fussy."

"Oh yeah, not fussy at all," Phil rolled his eyes and chuckled. "You just described someone there, Peej."

"I did?" I played naive. "Who would that be, Phil?"

"Yeah," Phil squinted his eyes at me. "You just described Chr-"

My foot connected sharply with Phil's shin before he could continue and caused him to yelp in pain. His hands flew down to his shin to rub away the pain and in the mean time the teacher had stepped into the classroom.
