Chapter Thirty Three
Other Side
Today was the last Sunday of the month. It's a foundation for kids with cancer. Growing up as an only child, this became my way of experiencing a sibling's love. Ever since I was fifteen years old, tumutulong na ako sa foundation na 'to.
Lahat ng naiipon ko mula sa allowance ay ibinibili ko ng groceries and other necessities. Tapos, every last Sunday of the month, basta hindi ako busy, pumupunta ako dito.
"I told you, hindi ka pwede sumama..."
"Why? Pupuntahan mo ba ang ibang lalaki mo?" he asked, still making a sad face.
I replied with a teasing smile.
"Let me tag along with you then."
"Fine," I conceded. I expected him to be dangerous, ruthless, cunning... but instead, he's just this soft, little boy when it comes to me.
And I loved him more for that.
Nagpunta muna kami sa grocery. He kept asking me where we were going, but I didn't give him any answers. Bahala siya d'yan. Ginusto niya 'yan.
"Where the hell are we going? Lalayas ka na ba?" he asked as we reached the counter. Grabe, his effect to people talaga.
Tig-isa kaming nagtutulak ng cart papunta sa parking area, and he seriously wouldn't stop talking.
"Don't you think this is too much for you to consume all of these?" he asked.
Hindi ko ulit siya sinagot.
"You'll get fat."
Umirap ako.
"But I don't care. You're still beautiful."
"No," he said with a mischievous smile. "But I can imagine you with chubby cheeks and all the fats in your belly. I think hugging you would be more comfortable if you got fat."
"Won't you really tell me where we're headed?" he asked.
Umiling ako. "Nope."
"Hindi mo sure," I said.
