You headed quietly at your own locker, shoving all the books inside. It was another day where you lazily want to get through.

"Hey, I heard that Joshua bought some bouquet of flowers. The boys are all babbling about it." you heard some girls gossiping about Joshua,it made your heart sink.

The thing is you like him and hearing some girls talking about a lucky girl, as expected made you tighten your grip on the book you were holding.

" Really? " your best friend asked incredulously.

"What a lucky girl..." she mumbles, you could see the hopefulness in her eyes. You just nodded and the two of you headed to your first class.

What a lucky girl, you thought.

😿😿😿

It surprised you that you can't focus on your studies because of the fact that the boy you like with someone else.

"Earth to Y/N? You listening?" your best friend snapping you to reality. She offered you some of her foods with a sweet smile. You felt guilty because you also like Joshua and not telling her about it.

"Y-Yeah, I'm listening." but before you could say something to her, a boy caught your attention that stopped in front of your table.

"Hey, Joshua."your best friend greeted the boy, you noticed a bouquet of roses in his hands.

"Can I talk to you?" there was a hint of shyness on his voice but you didn't take notice of this. Joshua smiled expectantly and extended his arms, giving the bouquet to you.

Shocked as your best friend nudge you, you turn to her. Afterall this years spending with your best friend you could easily read the emotions through her eyes.

"I think he meant you, Y/N." sadness fill her eyes, making you turn to Joshua who was still waiting for your response.

😿😿😿

"Is this a prank or something?" making you glance behind the two of you, there was no one in the court. Joshua frowned at your question and shook his head.

"No, it's not a prank. I like you, Y/N." he breathes, making you caught your breath.

" N-No..." you felt the relief leaves at the very second and replaced by pain.

"What do you mean 'no'?" the smile on his lips disappear instantly, you set the bouquet on one of the bleachers.

"I mean—you're great Joshua, but we can't." Joshua looked down at his hands trying to sink in what you just said. Before he could ask you answered with a shrug.

"Why? Why we can't be—"

" We'll just end up hurting," you remembered your best friend who will probably end up broken if the two of you pursue this. " I can't risk that, Joshua. We're friends, right?"

"Yes, but i don't understand. But you feel the same way right?" his hand grips your shoulder gently, trying to catch your attention. There was expectant and something behind those hazel brown eyes that made you look down.

You nodded.

"But?" he followed trying to put up things together.

"Not like the way you want me too." with that Joshua let go of you. You wanted to hold him close to you but couldn't. But you knew at the end of the day who really matters most to you. Your best friend.

"Oh..." that was the last answer Joshua thought you would say. Because his heart kept on saying that there could be more with the two of you. He knew you feel it too.

"I'm sorry, Joshy." it was hard turning him down now because he has his eyes on you. You want to answer him, that you have the same feelings.

"Is it because of Y/B/F/N (your best friend name)? " that made you bit your lip and avert your attention away to the bouquet thinking that this might be the last time he'll give you something. This will be the last time he'll have this feelings with you.

"For once... think about yourself." he took a step closer to you and held your cheeks.

"You think it's selfish? but for me it's not." Joshua continues trying to change your mind."Nothing's wrong with just simply following your heart... I—I'm following my heart and confessing my feelings at this very moment."

"Of course, it's the simplest and easiest way to do Joshua. To risk everything because of our feelings but It's not that easy...we just can't be. Please don't make this hard—"

"It's also hard for me Y/N." he snapped, letting go of you. You tried to hold back the tears like what Joshua was already doing.

"I'm sorry, I just can't." Before Joshua could change your mind, you started on your heels. Being afraid to what will happen if you stayed there at that very moment.

"Y/N, is it that hard to say that you feel the same way?"
