{Chapter 34} That's What She Said
Danny
"Finals are finally over! Glory Hallelujah, Joy to the whole god forsaken world!" Mari cheered as we slid into the booth at Delilah's. It had been a few weeks since Mikey had been released from the hospital and we had all taken our last Calculus final today.
"How were finals?" Faye came over and asked, setting the menus down to us.
"Dreadful, horrible and finally over!" Riley pumped his fist in the air and she laughed.
"Okay then! What do you want to eat?"
After placing our orders, she got back to work, bustling around the restaurant like a mad woman. Christy was now 7 months along and she and Chris had left for an ultrasound, leaving her in charge for the afternoon.
"You know, it's supposed to be really hot this weekend. We should go to the beach," Mari suggests and we nod in agreement, knowing it's going to be in the 90s. Faye comes back over to fill our cups and Mari repeats the idea to her, she agrees and suggests we invite the rest of the 'gang' to come with us.
Saturday morning, a small stampede of woman dragged me out of bed to go to the beach.
At 9:30 in the morning
Basically, the crack of dawn
"Come on, Daniel. Out of bed! We're going to the beach!" Alex says and throws me into the bathroom, my swim trunks following suit.
"Ugh! Alex, who goes to the beach at 10 in the morning?" I call out
"We do! Get dressed, we have to pick up Fayelynn and Mikey!"
Well, then I guess can't be that bad?
After grudgingly getting dressed and stuffing pancakes in my mouth, Alex and I use mums minivan to get to the beach. Apparently, Alex bumped her bumper with mine parking last night, so now both of our taillights are broken and getting repaired at the garage. Faye and Mikey were already waiting outside with their bags and toys. She was wearing a gorgeous loose sundress with a floppy hat with a big brim and sunglasses. I could tell that under arm was a book, and she already had a bookmark sticking out of it.
"Get a new ride Danny? It's pretty sweet," Riley says as he climbs into the car.
"I can see that you traded in the sports cars for something more... family efficient," Ringo teased lightly
"Leave him alone, he's just planning ahead for him and Fayelynn's kids," Haley says and Faye chocks on the water that she was sipping.
"Dear lord, please tell me that's not true, that's not true right?" Faye leans over and pleads with me
"N-no of course not! God, Alex just hit my bumper and broke my taillight," I explain and Mikey voice pipes up.
"Good, I don't want to be an uncle, I'm only 5," he chides, without looking up from his crossword puzzles.
"Can we not talk about this? Please..." Faye pleads and they shake there head, laughing and the subject moved onto something else. Peggy Beach is a huge private beach that is fairly full in the summer, considering this is one of the hottest days ever, it's pretty much filled to the brim.
"You guys go find a good spot, I'm going to park," Alex says and we nod, climbing out of the minivan with bags and beach toys. Finding a spot on the beach big enough for all of us proved to be hard enough, with the tide coming in in less than an hour, people were moving farther up the beach. We finally found a spot up some cliffs and rocks, but close enough to the water and sand. As we were setting down our towels, Alex ran over to us.
