*Hayden's POV*
"Alright bubbie," I start as I get him out of his car seat. "Go give grammy a big hug."
I grab a backpack out of the trunk and follow them inside. I check my watch, only four more hours.
Four hours.
Four hours.
Four hours.I hand the bag off to my mom. "I can stay for a couple more hours and then I have to head out. Thank you for watching him this weekend." I say with a smile.
My mom gives my arm a squeeze, "Of course sweetie. Gosh he gets cuter each day." she gushes.
"Yeah he does... oh, before I forget, I packed a few sets of extra clothes in case he has any accidents. But I think he should be fine, he's pretty vocal about when he needs to go." I say watching him go straight for the toy box.
My phone goes off in my pocket. I sigh and check it.
Trey
-flight got moved up, you leave in two hours-"Shit." I mutter under my breath shoving my phone back into my pocket.
"Everything ok?" my mom asks.
I sigh, "Well I had planned on staying long enough to at least have dinner with you guys, but my flight got changed last minute." I tell her before kneeling next to Blake. "Ok bubbie, mommy has to go but I'll be back on Sunday. Do you know how many days that is?"
I see the cogs in his brain turning, "Um two." he says holding up two fingers.
I chuckle at his cuteness, "That's right bubbie, you're so smart. So mommy will see you in two days. Be good for grammy and we'll go out for ice cream when I get back."
He wraps his arms around my neck and I pepper his chubby cheeks with kisses. "I wuv you mommy."
My heart.
I don't wanna go.
"I love you too bubbie." I say standing and heading to my car as I wipe under my eyes. I see Blake standing at the front door of my moms house, I give him a little wave before I drive towards the airport.
I made it just in the nick of time.
Last call for flight 1378 to St. Petersburg boarding at gate 7B.
Shit. I grab my bags and haul ass through the airport nearly tripping a couple of times before I make it to the gate. Out of breath and breaking a sweat, I present my ticket and board the plane.
~~~~
Sixteen hours later and my feet are back on the ground. Thank god Trey is already here waiting at the gate.
"I'm assuming there's a good reason my flight got pushed up?" I say raising an eyebrow.
Trey grabs my bag and walks me to the car waiting outside, "The reason is a good one. I promise. I just can't tell you what it is. Did you pack clothes for a formal event?"
I text my mom to check in on Blake. "Yes I did."
H
-Just landed, headed to the hotel. Is Blake being good?-Mom
-Glad you're safe. He's been ok, had a tough night without you here.-H
-I'll be up for a few more hours if you wanna call.-Moments later my screen lights up. Looks like my mom figured out how to FaceTime. When I answer it, my little mans face pops up.
"Mommy! Look grammy, it's mommy!" he shouts shoving the phone in her face.
I can't help but laugh, "Yeah bubbie it's mommy. You being good for grammy?"
He nods and I see my mom give a thumbs up in the background. "And what are you and grammy doing today?"
"Fishies!" he says as his eyes light up. Sounds like he's going to the aquarium today.
He's so stinking cute. "Alright bubbie, mommy's sleepy so I'm gonna go to bed for a bit. Keep being good for grammy. I'll see you in how many days?"
He thinks for a second, "One!"
"That's right bubbie, one more day and then I'll be there giving you all my hugs and kisses." I say with a smile. "I love you bubbie."
"I wuv you mommy."
With that I hang up, set my alarm for a few hours from now, and pass the fuck out.
~~~~
I groan when I hear my alarm. I pick up my phone turning it off and seeing a text from Trey.
Trey
-Attire is black tie formal. Pick you up at 5.-H
-can I please have a hint as to what the event is?-Trey
-Formal at 5. Don't be late for your own party H.-What the hell is this guy talking about? Whatever... I have just enough time to take a quick shower and get dressed.
Or so I thought.
I'm really pushing my time getting ready. It's 4:59. Shit, shit, shit, shit. I grab my socks and shoes and make a run for the lobby, to see Trey waiting.
"I could have waited long enough for you to put your shoes on Hayden..."
I flare my nostrils, frustrated, "You said not to be late. So I'm putting these on in the car." I say holding up my shoes.
"Well you're the only client I manage that is consistently on time. A spare minute wouldn't have hurt."
I slide into the backseat of the town car and we're off. I still have no idea where we're going. But when we pull up to a venue, I see why it was kept a secret.
When he said it was my party, he wasn't kidding.
"Hayden Elizabeth Grey, welcome to an exhibition of your collected works... you are being honored here tonight."
