Chapter 49: talking

Cordelia pov

Its been a week since Ryder, I think his name is? Saved my life. I'm going back to the beach today.

When I get there I only put my feet into the water. I sit down because I'm the only one here. Its early in the morning so no one is up yet. About five minutes later someone taps my shoulder.

''Hello? Are you the girl from last week?''

''Hello. Are you the boy that saved me even though you almost killed me?''

''Yeah, sorry about that. I didn't mean to do that. I didn't know that you would be jumpy. No offence though.''

''None taken. I'm an Odair and the biggest scaredy cat. Even my six year old twin brother and sister get less scared than me sometimes, I'm not usually that jumpy though. Usually I'm able to handle it sometimes, I'm good at being the bravest Odair but I'm not good with jump scares. Well, I'm Cordelia Odair. And you are?''

''Hawthorne. Ryder Hawthorne. I believe you know my parents.''

''Yes, in fact my sister Brooke is you're sister Ava's best friend.''

''Yeah. I saw you're sister waiting for Ava to hang out yesterday.''

''Yeah. They hang out everyday. My boyfriend hangs out with me less. Heck she spends more time with Ava than she does with my own family.''

''Yeah. So you have a boyfriend. Would I happen to know him?''

''No. His uncle was turned into an avox a long time ago. His name was Darius. His name is Alec. So how come I haven't seen you here before?''

''Well, I have been in district two at a prep school but I hated it so much that my parents finally decided to take me out.''

''Hi Deals.'' That's my boyfriend, Alec. He looks a lot like Darius. At least that's what Katniss said. ''Who is you're new friend?''

''This is Ryder. He's new here and yesterday he saved my life.''

''Well, thank you for saving my girlfriend. You're brother wants to talk to you.''

''Okay, bye guys. It was nice to meet you Ryder. I hope we meet again.'' I get up and Alec turns to me and kisses me. Then I leave.

Ryder pov

I think Rachel is very beautiful. From her red hair all the way to how she talks. I know that sounds creepy but its true. I wish she liked me back. After she leaves Alec asks if we can talk. I say sure.

''Stay away from my girl. I don't want you ruining anything, got it?'' I'm I'm shocked. He seems like a nice guy but he is being really mean.

''Why? Can't we both be friends?'' I ask. He grabs me by the shirt.

''Listen. Stay away from her or else. We wouldn't want to get you hurt. Now would we?''

''You can't tell me I can't hang out with her. I think she's nice. And I am a Hawthorne. Not just the son of a soldier who fought in revolution, but he also is keeping order in the districts. So it would be horrible if I told him.'' After he said that he slaps me across the face and punches me in the eye leaving it black and blue. Then he punches me in the stomach.

Then he walks away. Brooke walk out and sees me and runs over to me.

''Are you okay? What happened?''

''Alec punched me.''

''why would he do that?''

''He told me to stay away from Cordelia.''

''I can't believe him. This is the second time.''

''What do you mean?''

''She used to hang out with an old friend and he did the same thing.''

''Oh.'' She then proceeded to help me up.

''Thank you.''

''You're welcome.'' After that I left. And she went back.

My mom and dad were furious and helped me. Then I just went to bed.
