chapter 5

Jennie has never been out so late. Usually she would be home at 12:30 since her job would be over by 12, and it took a good few minutes to reach back to her house. So this was something new to her. But where she stood was even more foreign.

The vibrations boomed through the floorboards on the porch and the sound of music bumped even through the closed doors.

"Are we at... a party?" Jennie was surprised even hearing the word come out of her own mouth.

She had never been to a party before. Not if baby showers and her little cousins birthday parties didn't count. They never looked like this.

"Yea, do you go often?" Jimin asked from the right side of her, Taehyung on the left.

Jennie pursed her lips in thought. "Do birthday parties count?"

"Well, anything could be considered a party. Have you been to one like this though?" Taehyung asked, but without hearing her response walked away.

He didn't bother knocking on the door either, and instead just made his way inside the unlocked door. He left the door open, which Jimin waited for Jennie to walk through before heading in last.

She took off her Walmart vest so she was just left with a long sleeved black shirt, much to her dislike. She would have preferred something she would normally wear to school but the two boys insisted she didn't need to dress up, and how appearance didn't matter in 'their world.'

It was intriguing for sure. A few steps in the door and Jennie could tell she overreacted a bit. Just a bit.

There weren't a lot of people but there were a few people wandering or talking to each other. Not long after they made their entrance, a loud voice called out. "Park! Kim!"

She brushed off the voice but when she saw how both boys stopped and turned, she realized it was them being called to. Must've been their last name.

A boy with brown curly hair and double dimples coolly walked up to the pair. "Hey Hobi."

Jimin wrapped his arms around the guy in a quick embrace. After letting go, Taehyung and the mystery guy did the bro handshake thing.

"We've been waiting for you two, c'mon!" Hobi nodded his head over to another room, one he just walked out of.

Jimin shook his head quickly. "Actually we're not here for that - "

"Ah nonsense, you wouldn't stop talking about it for weeks," Hobi smiled and brushed off the boy. "It took a lot of convincing but we - "

Taehyung cleared his throat, effectively cutting off the rest of their sentence and he discreetly nodded toward Jennie, making her presence known.

"This is Jennie."

Hobi glanced at the girl for the first time since they arrived. His eyes narrowed slightly, and he looked back up to the two boys with a look saying "wtf?" Jennie couldn't tell what it meant exactly, or if it was directed towards her.

Hobi opened his mouth to speak but shut it right after. An awkward chuckle left his mouth as he yelled out a name. His head glancing back to the same room he came from as he expected a person to come out.

"What do you want?" A voice called back, one much colder.

The person that revealed themselves was a short, white haired boy. From afar he looked soft. He had on loose clothing and a decent amount of jewelry hanging from his neck, ears, one on his nose and eyebrows.

As he came closer, he wore a deadly gaze. The judge-filled expression he wore showed that nothing about this guy was soft. He looked scary. "Who's she?"

Jennie gulped at the sudden attention and glanced up at the boys who brought her there.

"Hey um, let's go to the kitchen while they talk." Jimin announced and tugged on the end of Jennie's sleeve as he trailed her away before anyone could say anything.

Once they made it into the room, they noticed it was fairly empty, except for a girl scrolling through her phone at the counter.

"Huh, you're already getting us in a lot of trouble. Usually these things would take a week at least." Jimin laughed forcefully before playing with the end earring.

"Who was that?"

"Hobi and um, Suga. He is a different person when you get to know him." She nodded and sat beside Jimin at a little side table.

"So, where are you from?" He asked politely and waited for her answer.

She had lived in Lakewood for all her life. "Here. I was born and raised in Lakewood, same with my parents. But, my family goes back to Trinidad and Tobago."

Jimin nodded slowly.

"What is it like... in Hoboken?" The question had been at the tip of her tongue for the longest time yet didn't feel comfortable enough to ask.

"What have you heard?" Jimin cautioned. He saw her shying away from the question. "Just rip it out, I won't mind."

Jennie breathed through her nose lightly. There were a whole lot of things like how all the people were ghetto, poor, and lowlifes who wouldn't make anything of themselves. The last one was from her mother herself.

"Well um... Just that you guys are very uh, inappropriate." She answered quietly. She figured using that word was much less harsh than the others.

"Hm." Jimin looked up in thought. "You wanna know what we often say about Lakewood?"

Jennie looked at him expectantly. "That you guys don't know how to have fun."

She smiled lightly and fiddled with the end of her sleeve. He wasn't so wrong, but not all of them were boring.

Soon, Taehyung made an appearance to which he and Jimin made quick eye contact and did some quick hand gestures that Jennie noticed since she was watching them. In the end, Taehyung nodded and Jennie saw Jimin sigh in relief.

"So, what are you guys talking about?" The blue haired boy walked over to them curiously.

"Your mom." Jimin joked, causing Taehyung to roll his eyes. He walked over to the other side of Jennie where there was an empty stool.

"You won't get in much trouble for being here right?" There was concern laced in Taehyung's voice.

Jennie shook her head and shrugged nonchalantly. "I don't think they would even notice."

The smile on Jimin's face twitched downwards slightly and Jennie cursed herself in her head for making this awkward. "I'm - " She started, but was cut off.

"Hungry? Me too, there's pizza over there let's go." Jimin looped his arm between Jennie and Taehyung before leading them both over to the large table.
