chapter 12
The next morning was delightful. Doja took the group to an Indian restaurant near the hotel where they tried different types of food.
Jennie's only had Indian food a few times so she was a bit weary about tasting something new. She ordered the pholourie, which was fried dough balls, it was delicious.
Doja herself ordered a chicken tikka masala, which Jennie kind of wished she'd gotten because of how good it smelled. After lunch, they found themselves walking around the back of the hotel where there was a large maze.
It was free to go into but there was always a chance of getting lost in there, which is why everyone made sure to turn their volume all the way up just in case.
Jennie didn't want to be a buzzkill like she was the day before, so she agreed to going into the maze as long as someone went with her.
Since it was 5 of them total, Kaiden and Aniya were in one group, and Doja, Jennie, Mahkai in the other. Jennie was glad she was with them because it would have been a little awkward if she was in the other group.
"We need to bet on something." Kaiden said as they stood around the entrance.
There were a few other people walking around but it was relatively peaceful.
"Agreed." Doja nodded. "The last group to reach the end has to..." she trailed off in thought.
The others looked at each other, thinking as well. Jennie thought of doing money, but they were college students so it's not like they just had money to spend so casually.
"...Admit a secret they've never told anyone." Mahkai suggested, and held his hands up for dramatic effect.
"Hey, that's not bad." Jennie looked at the others.
"Okay. Loser's have to spill a secret. And it can't be a fake one either, we need proof."
"Well get your proof ready Doja because you're going down." Aniya pointed to the ground.
"What are you, 5?" She sassed and nodded to her team. "Alright guys, see you at the end, after we beat you."
And the three ran into the maze, already seeing four different passageways right from start. Jennie suggested going straight and so they did, and the other team went left.
It was Mahkai in the lead and the two girls trailed behind him. The bushes were really tall and narrow, so it restricted their view from seeing too far. They made lefts, and rights, and kept taking twists and turns that were starting to look all the same.
"I'm pretty sure we passed this way already." Doja shook her head at Mehkai. "If we lose because of you, I'll never forgive you."
"Well thanks for the motivation," He mumbled sarcastically. "Why don't you lead?"
