chapter 15

Tonight was going to be different, Jennie could feel it in her veins. Maybe it was the bubbliness from Jimin when he pulled her into a hug, jumping around, she didn't know.

Jennie was in her own car this time, following behind the black vehicle that belonged to the boys. She felt extremely nervous.

Her nerves spiked even more when she saw that she was driving further and further from her hometown.

She was nearing Hoboken, the opposite city, the one she was always taught to avoid. They were leading her there. She tried to pretend it wasn't 12:24am, as she drove through the night.

Jennie began seeing less and less trees, and the sight of the city began coming to life. There were buildings, huge ones, and the lights that lit up around the streets were so pretty. Some buildings even went as far as to have drawings all over the walls.

As she waited at a stop light and she couldn't help her eyes from taking in the beautiful artwork done on the building in front of her.

It was a girl, with dark skin painted, whose face was made up of different pieces. It was a different image all in one, and it left an empowering message about equality that almost made Jennie tear up.

It showed a black woman being targeted by a hispanic woman, who was then being targeted by a asian woman, who was targeted by white woman. Yet at the end of the drawing, it was a man who was targeting the white woman, showing the circle of life that society created.

What was the point of discriminating against someone if in the end, we are all targeted against the same. She saw the prejudice of race and gender in just one image. It was stunning.

Jennie took a picture of the work, but then put her phone away as she continued to drive.

There were all different types of people walking around late at night. People that Jennie hadn't seen much of in her hometown.

They looked happy. There was a group of people in particular that were chatting and laughing together as they crossed the street.

One of the girls wore a really revealing outfit, one that exposed her skin, and yet she seemed confident in her own body.

There was a boy beside her wearing colorful clothing, a flannel with a bunch of splashes of color on his shirt. Jennie could make out the camera that hung around his neck.

There were a few others that looked like that, and she had the idea that they were probably modeling, and the guy was their photographer.

She could hear their muffled voices from in her car. They were loud, and it seemed like nothing in the world mattered but them. It was an interesting sight to witness. People were actually living like a movie in the city.

She saw another group of people, just 3 guys that she thought looked familiar but didn't think much of it. They sat lazing at a bench, staring out at the streets and Jennie found them intimidating so when she drove past them, she just looked straight ahead.

It was a habit she tended to, especially when driving past the opposite sex, but here she was in Hoboken. She knew she had to keep her awareness on point.

It wasn't like she didn't trust Jimin and Taehyung, she didn't trust the people there. She was led into a parking garage, but wasn't stopped to pay the fee, she was able to just drive through. One of the guys must've paid for her spot too. She mentally reminded herself to give them the money back, however much it was.

The garage was echoey when she came out of her car, and the sound of the two other car doors closing followed hers.

"This city is so beautiful." Were the first words to come out of her mouth when the boys neared her.

"I know right!" Jimin seemed content with her statement. "You haven't even seen half of it yet."

The garage was mostly full since it was night, and many people were probably in their homes. They walked alongside each other. Taehyung was looking around the area casually, probably looking out for any strangers who may be walking around.

"Try to keep up." Was all Jimin said and he began running ahead. Jennie's eyes widened at the sight of hair flowing as he ran away.

Taehyung tapped her lightly and signaled for her to follow Jimin. He didn't want to run off leave her behind.

Jennie's cheeks warmed at the gesture and began to follow Jimin's quicker pace. He seemed excited.

They parked on the first floor, so Jimin escaped through a back door without any worries. Yet they were still in a park garage, where a car could pop out at any time, so she was worried. "Jimin be careful okay!"

The pink haired boy only laughed and Taehyung noticed how Jennie's eyes worriedly followed him. "He does this all the time, he'll be fine."

The exited the building and on the outside were a bunch of intimidating looking buildings. Jimin made a turn into an alley, one that Jennie felt very suspicious of.

There wasn't anyone around besides them considering it was really late. She was glad the streetlights were doing their job of keeping the area visible.

They kept turning and twisting until Jennie saw Jimin stop suddenly.

"Jimin..?" She called out cautiously. She kept walking until she stood right beside him, and the sight left her momentarily stunned. Her draw dropped in awe.
