chapter 35
Jennie winced at the harsh name and stared at the floor confused. Who was Kim? And what do these people want with her?
She could see about 4 guys sitting on the ground, on the side of the Walmart building. Another guy held a strong grip on her shoulder, preventing her from moving. Jennie's eyes widened and she let out a shriek at the pressure.
She could recognize one of them, but it was dark so she wasn't completely sure if she saw that face anywhere. She squirmed in an attempt but it didn't do anything but make her more restricted.
"Don, let her go. Kim already doesn't like us, don't mess with his girl." His girl? Who is he? And how do these people supposedly know her?
"So what? You gonna run scared if he finds out?" The guy, Don, called out to his friend who just shook his head.
Jennie tried to remember as much about them as she could. The guy Don was speaking to looked young, as if he were a teenager. For some reason, he looked familiar, and the longer she looked at him the more it became clear.
The guy had cropped brown hair, and caramel skin, which stood out since he and the others were much lighter.
"Of course not," the brown haired boy reported and stood up and walked a little off to the side. "But I'm not going down for your s--t too." The guy walked off to the side. She noticed how often he kept glancing at his phone.
"I think you have the wrong person," Jennie said nervously, trying to be brave but also struggling to not have her legs give out from how much they were shaking. She tried to glance at the person holding her, but he pushed her forward slightly.
"Nah, it's the right person," the man said with a snarl. "Just look at you, you're exactly Taehyung's type."
Taehyung? Taehyung Kim. It started to become clearer. But what did he mean Taehyung's type? "What are you talking about?"
The guy grinned at her menacingly, and Jennie felt her eyes widening slowly at the word coming from his mouth. "Dark."
She heard voices around her; laughing, talking, mocking her. Everything started to feel familiar, like deja vu. The voices around her got louder, and she felt her breathing starting to get harder; heavier. Maybe she was beginning to hallucinate, she couldn't tell.
She would have thought everything was going black, or maybe even seeing the bright light when she thought people did. Instead she saw colors, flashes of the rainbow right before her eyes. But it was also dark, so dark. And it confused her. Was it the sky?
She could see the stars from where she stood. And she saw her hand moving up to the sky as if she could touch it. She's been here before, like this. Fragments of her sister's face from several years ago began flashing in her mind.
"Jennie!" An eight year old Jisoo pushed her twin sister playfully.
The two little girls giggled and fell back on the picnic blanket in their backyard. They saw an episode on their favorite TV show on two best friends sleeping outside together, and they've always wanted to try it. They were best friends after all. Being twins was their lucky charm to become closer than ever.
"Do you ever wonder what would've happened if we weren't twins?" Jennie asked curiously, glancing at her sister.
She had always been a curious girl, asking questions whether or not it was appropriate.
Jisoo was munching on a pack of chips when she saw her sister staring up at the darkness above them. She always liked answering Jennie's odd questions. She found them intriguing, and her inner philosophy loved to come out and think about those types of stuff. She found them fun.
"That's like saying what if there were no stars in the sky," Jisoo started, and Jennie turned to glance at her.
Jisoo grinned, little crumbs scattered around her lips. "What would be the point?"
A large smile spread on Jennie's face and she held her pinky out to Jisoo.
"Best friends forever," Jennie said and Jisoo wrapped her own pinky around Jennie's tiny one.
"Twin power deluxe." She exclaimed loudly, and the two did a handshake that sealed their promise.
It was cheesy, but cute. It explained why the two girls began laughing, clutching their stomach from the corny joke. They spent the rest of the night gazing at the sky, and wondering the impossible while trying to find an answer.
That was all before. Before her family started to hate her, and her sister began to shade her for a reason she had yet to figure out. They used to be so close, and now it was all gone.
