chapter 19

"Are you okay?" Namjoon, her coworker checked up on her after seeing Jennie looked a bit more down than usual.

She sighed and tried to stand a bit straighter so she at least looked professional, despite how she felt inside. "Yeah, just a bit jumpy today."

"That's like the tenth time you sighed tonight." Namjoon pointed out. He frowned at her slightly. "You know you can talk to me, right?"

Of course she couldn't, though. The two weren't very close, and she wouldn't spill her personal life onto the guy.

He was just a coworker. But not wanting to be rude, she nodded anyway. He smiled back before heading back to his station to deal with a customer.

"Do you think she's cheating on us?" Jennie heard a familiar voice whisper not very quietly.

Pushing a cart full of items, was Taehyung who walked alongside Jimin, the terrible whisperer.

It was almost as if instantly, whatever ill feeling she had a few seconds ago, went away at the sight of the two boys. She felt grateful that they were here with her right now, even if they wouldn't be forever.

"No spray paint or rolls of toilet paper today?" She asked, ignoring the previous comment.

Jimin smiled and shook his head. "Nope, we just needed groceries."

He began unloading the cart, and Taehyung helped.

"You guys live together?" Jennie asked, thinking they probably shared a dorm or something off campus.

"Yeah." Jimin answered. "Taehyung's been eating out all the food lately - ow!"

Jimin rubbed his side with a frown and narrowed his eyes at the taller. "Don't think I forgot about the mochi." Taehyung shook his head with a small smile.

"Were you two just casually in town again?" she joked, remembering the conversation from days before.

Considering they were a good half hour from the city, depending on wherever it was that they lived, it wouldn't be very smart to leave groceries in a car for so long.

"Sure." Taehyung answered sarcastically with a little smile of his own. Jennie chuckled lightly.

"Our place isn't far from here. At least now we can make it without the back window blocked from the toilet paper." He said more to Jimin.

"What did you do with all of that toilet paper anyway? The coronavirus ended a long time ago." She questioned, thinking back to the day they had a cart full of toilet paper, as she scanned the items.

Because of the pandemic, work had been so hectic for Jennie that she thought of quitting. It was crazy. People had bought out entire stocks of toilet paper, which she didn't really understand much of.

She'd seen people hoarding items as well, like an entire row of freezer food, bread, even water, such basic items. Some people took a bunch of things for themselves, and she found it greedy how they weren't being considerate with the limited items.

It was actually really upsetting, and she had never felt worse having to have been quarantined with her family. She thought it would be a nice bonding experiment, but it wasn't, no where close.

The people in her town were smart and actually stayed inside for the most part, and thankfully there were only 4 covid victims in her town, while Hoboken only reached 12. It didn't stop her from praying for the unlucky others all around the world who had suffered from the pandemic. She was just glad it was all over.

"We'd tell you, but then we'd have to end you." Jimin's voice dropped an octave lower and it momentarily stunned her by how deep it could get.

Gulping, she rang up the rest of the items, ignoring the laugh that came from the pink boy in front of her.

"T-that'll be $20.49" she breathed, cursing herself in her head for stuttering.

They looked much more intimidating than usual. They look nothing like they did the first night they met her. Once again, a long dangling silver earring was in one of Jimin's ears, and in the other was a simple small hoop.

He wore a silky black shirt that had small white palm trees in random spots. It made his pastel pink hair stand out once more, and it was the same color as his lips.

Jennie tried not to stare at them too long. But switching her gaze to the other boy didn't help either.

Taehyung wore a thin silver necklace, and there was a symbol on it that she couldn't get right away. She could see his collar bones peeking from above his pale blue jacket he wore over a white shirt.

It was Gucci, she could tell by the designs running over his arms. He must be rich - rich. There was still so much to learn about them.

Tae had his same rings on, and Jennie could see them a little closer. They were all black, and stood out against his creamy skin. He had on earrings two, both which Jennie found absolutely appealing on the boy.

They defied social and masculinity norms by wearing whatever they wanted to. A new feeling spread across her chest, along with warmth, at that realization. It was nice. They were nice.

She blinked out of her daze, and saw that they had been looking at her too. She felt embarrassed for having been caught, but they didn't seem to care that she caught them as well. Jeez, they can be so intimidating.

She looked down at the bagged items and almost forgot what it was that she scanned. If she could remember, there were a bunch of gummies and other childish drinks. She wasn't one to judge. At least not that much.

"So, can we see you tomorrow?" Jimin asked her with curious eyes.

They still wanted to see her. She smiled at the thought. "Well, I have work again tomorrow at 6..."

"How about we meet at 2 and we'll drop you off here before your shift?" Taehyung chimed in.

Jennie thought for a second and nodded. "Sure."

"We can pick you up at your house?" She glanced at the two boys before shaking her head slowly.

"I can just meet you here." She brushed it off, wanting them to be far away from her parents as possible, knowing she would only end up in bigger trouble.

It was risky enough even talking to them in school since it could easily spread among the study body and somehow get back to her parents. Or even just by Jisoo...

"Okay." Jimin looked kinda down at the statement, but then smiled again. "See you then!"

The bags were already in the cart and so Jimin and Taehyung walked away with their new groceries, right after they both bit goodbyes and warm gestures.

She glanced to the side and saw her coworker looking at her weirdly. She furrowed her eyebrows at her. Did she do something wrong?

She shrugged, thinking he was probably looking at something behind her. Only a few minutes till her shift was over and she could go home...
