chapter 26

"Wow Jennie! These are selling out faster than the Beatles album!" Jennie laughed at Cecelia, one of the older ladies that often brought a ton of her food for her grandchildren.

"Thanks Cecelia," she said honestly.

She sometimes wished Cecelia was her own grandmother for how much love she had for them.

She also made $20 just from Cecelia buying 10 of her cinnamon rolls. She always supported her booths especially.

The three little kids ran around their grandmother, munching on Jennie's cinnamon rolls. Jennie smiled at the crumbs that fell around their mouths. Jennie ended up making red velvet cinnamon rolls, something she's never made before.

She didn't wanna toot her own horn, but they were really good. She was quite proud with how they turned out and they'd been selling out quickly.

She was glad she prepared a lot of batches for the event. In total, she made a little over $300 from the cinnamon rolls alone, that would all go to the church, of course.

It was only 1pm, and she's already down to one tray left. She had saved a few in a separate container in case the two boys and Melanie decided to show up. She really hoped they did.

All through the sight of children's smiles, she still felt a bit lonely. Her eyes searched the open yard for the hundredth time that evening, hoping she'd see a flash of blue or pink anywhere.

And even as the hours passed by, she held onto that little bit of hope. Her sister, as expected, was long gone, doing He knows what.

The event was held in the back of the front of the church where there was a lot of open land. There were a lot of people there, and a few were regulars that Jennie recognized at the church on Sunday's mass.

She also saw Saniah, one of the deaf old ladies who Jennie had a conversation with while using ASL. In fact, she even taught Saniah the one KSL word she learned from Taehyung.

"Jennie!" Jennie heard a sing-song voice call out to her. She recognized it as her sister, who was now coming towards her with a guy following behind her.

"Jennie meet Tony, Tony meet Jennie." Her sister clapped her hands in accomplishment.

Jennie felt very skeptical with the guy at first. He didn't look suspicious or anything, but was with Jisoo, so she had a reason to feel reserved.

The guy looked to be a natural dirty-blonde with blue eyes, and he wore brown pants and a white vest tucked in them. He looked like a stereotypical church boy.

"M - my name is - uh - Troye." The boy looked flushed due to his really pale skin.

"It's my turn to sell this stuff so why down you two..." she pushed them both away from her. "...go do whatever loser things you probably have in common."

Jennie just sighed and pulled on her tan sweater sleeves. Jisoo stood behind the stand, looking at her reflection from her phone.

Jennie could see the look of longing in Troye's eyes as he stared at the other twin. Jennie just rolled her eyes and began to walk away towards the church, where she' hoped to get peace and quiet for a few minutes.

"Hey, wait up!"

Jennie glanced over her shoulder and saw the Troye boy running to catch up with her. She stood in place with an awkward smile on her face. The wind began to pick up slightly, and so she saw stray hairs from her bun flying around her face.

"Is your hair naturally like that?" Troye asked once he caught up to her, and lifted his hand towards her face. She flinched back lightly and tried neatening her hair.

"Yes." She said a bit annoyed, but threw on a smile so she wouldn't seem rude.

Troye looked at her funnily. "But your sister's isn't like that." He pointed to her head as if to make a point.

"Coily you mean? Jisoo just straightens hers." She thought it was common sense.

Troye nodded and looked down at the ground shyly. Jennie signed and started to feel a bit bad. She recalled seeing the guy a few times in church.

He was one of the high school volunteers that usually helped around during masses. He seemed nice, but she still didn't know him.

"Well I'm going to the bathroom so..." She began walking away again, this time without being stopped.

Troye didn't say anything, and so she was able to make it inside the church alone. That was the last time she saw Troye for the night, and for some strange reason, it just felt like he was a pawn at the moment.

Like something just added randomly for a distraction or just to waste her time. She didn't dwell much on the thought, and continued to mind her own business.

---

It was pretty late by the time the sale was over. The boys didn't show up, and although it made her a bit upset that they couldn't make it, she figured they had a good reason. They were busy boys, probably.

It ended a bit later than usual since there were still things to be sold. Jisoo left with her parents that evening while Jennie chose to stay behind to help, planning to just carpool with one of the volunteers as she always did.

She was just moving tables in the large storage room with the help of one of the older women. The others were outside cleaning everything up.

"I'll be back, I need to make sure they're doing everything right." The woman was looking outside for the window that directly looked out onto the yard of the church.

She could see people messing around instead of finishing the chores.

She was left all alone in the room, and she continued the work by herself. She dragged the foldable chairs to the other side and let it sit on the wall.

She glanced out the window where she saw the few teenagers were still messing around. It was pretty dark outside, save for the few dim lights that brightened up the area.

She couldn't make out exactly who the faces below her were, but she could tell one of the people were Troye. She could see herself in the window since the lighting was shining down from behind her.

She saw just how worn out she looked and the frizzy mess that was her hair from walking up flights of stairs repeatedly.

Then with a single blink, it wasn't just her own reflection staring back at her. In fact, it became three figures, two she became most familiar with.
