chapter 14
Tuesday ended up being restless as a day of work Jennie. It's been an exact week since she first met the gorgeous boys named Jimin and Taehyung.
Last week every day she worked, the boys would accompany her, even if it was for a few minutes and they had to go. She didn't see them that day, and she held onto the little sliver of hope that they would appear sometime later at night.
She was scanning her last customer's item and placed it into the bag when the person began talking to her. "You're a pretty little thing. How come I've never seen a gem like you here before?"
Jennie glanced up at the man who spoke to her, and her senses immediately went on alert. She looked around subtly and saw Namjoon, the other employee, slouching by his cash register a few isles in front of her. It made her feel relaxed knowing that if anything happened she could call out to him.
"This is making me uncomfortable and I'd appreciate it if you stop." Jennie said the familiar line, but added, "Did you find everything you were looking for today?" so she wouldn't seem rude.
"I have now." He looked at her weirdly and exposed the several gold teeth in his mouth.
She didn't know if he was trying to flex or anything, but she tried not to look at him for too long, knowing her face would unintentionally twist in disgust. She already felt her lip twitching.
The man swiped his card and she tapped the screen a few times as the receipt was printed.
"Alright, have a nice day." She said a bit dully, handing him his receipt.
She eyed him to make sure he wouldn't try anything, and was thankful when he didn't. She let out a sigh as she watched him walk away. That was one of the major downfalls to having a night shift job.
The amount of times she'd gotten hit on or even touched before was unbelievably high, but Namjoon was always there, which made her feel a bit better.
"You handled that pretty well." Jennie jumped into the air but this time hands embraced her before she hurt herself again.
She saw Jimin pop up in front of her with a sweet smile, and figured the hands belonged to Taehyung. He let go seeing she was okay and moved around to stand beside Jimin. She was about to lecture them about scaring her again when she realized something.
"I just noticed how much shorter you are from Tae," she said without thinking. She didn't even realize she gave Taehyung a nickname, she was just so used to hearing Jimin say it.
She was going to apologize or something, but then decided to just brush it off, they didn't seem bothered anyway. Jimin looked up at Taehyung like he was now noticing their height difference and stood on his tiptoes.
They still didn't reach each other. The corner of Taehyung's lip went up, and Jennie considered it a smile. He moved over to the cart and began loading items onto the belt. Except this time, the cart was full, to the max.
"You're buying more spray paint?" She questioned with wide eyes, holding up a can of the expensive paint.
The pink boy laughed and brushed stray hair away from his face.
"It'll make more sense later." Jimin promised, and watched as Jennie rang up the cans.
Now that she was seeing them again, she thought back to the day before at church. They way they left, not just by themselves, but with a little girl. Jennie wondered who she was, and what she was to the boys in front of her.
"What are you guys doing with it?"
Taehyung and Jimin shared a glance, and they seemed to be saying something with their eyes because of the hesitation she noticed in Jimin. Taehyung looked back at Jennie. "Wanna join us?"
She thought about it for a moment before smiling sadly. "I don't want to get in trouble again."
She saw the little disappointed look in Jimin's eyes and couldn't help but feel bad. She just wished things were different, where she was this really outgoing girl who was able to do things any normal person her age could. She felt like a loser, and it was really embarrassing to admit.
"But, m - maybe I can try?" She offered, and glanced at the time on her watch.
Her shift was over in a few minutes anyway. Yes, it was around midnight, but now that she learned from last time, maybe she could come up with a good excuse. A better lie.
Honestly, it was incredibly nerve racking knowing she was going to lie to her parents because she never does it. She would obviously be really bad at it.
Maybe she can say she got held back, and then maybe traffic held her down. It didn't really matter what the excuse was anymore, because the smile that soon blossomed on Jimin's face was worth any punishment from her parents.
His eyes were twinkling, and they disappeared every few seconds from his wide smile.
"Taehyung, are we really doing this?" Jimin asked the guy excitedly, and it left Jennie a little confused on what they were talking about.
"We are." He said thoughtfully as if he couldn't believe it himself.
Jimin grasped his arm and shook it excitedly. Taehyung smiled a tight lipped one, but it was genuine and showed he was also truly happy.
"Ahh, this is going to be so much fun!" Jimin squealed as Jennie finished up scanning the rest of the spray paint, over 10 bags total.
She cringed at the price on the screen and yet Taehyung seemed to have no problem swiping his card. She just hoped that they knew what they were doing, and that all of their crazed adventures won't lead them into debt.
