chapter 37
Just by standing in the building lobby, Jennie could tell the place was expensive. A condo like this was already pricey in Lakewood, but they were in the city... where everything was crazy expensive.
There was an elevator that led to the fifth floor, the highest in the building. Melanie fell asleep in the car, so it was Jimin carrying her in his arms.
"What does she eat?" Jimin groaned, and adjusted the girl in his arms.
She didn't look very heavy, but considering she was a growing girl and Jimin was pretty short himself, it made sense why he couldn't carry her so easily."Don't shame my sister." Taehyung glanced at the boy and lazily leaned on the steel elevator doors.
"Shame?" Jimin puckered his lips adorably and kissed Melanie's forehead. "I would never shame my baby."
Jennie felt her heart thumping against her chest and turned forward so she was facing the steel doors. She saw Jimin glance at her, and she messed with her lip out of habit.
"Why'd you turn so shy?" Jimin smiled knowingly and shook his head back to get the hair away from his eyes. Jennie shrugged, trying to act casually.
"I don't know what you're talking about," she replied shyly, which evoked a pretty laugh from the boy.
The elevator doors opened and revealed a long and wide hallway. It was a bricked white on the walls and ceilings, and a grey carpet flooring. It looked really nice and clean.
Taehyung went over to a door that was far down the hallway. #507. On the floor by the door was a welcome mat. It was a bright yellow and said: 'Hello Friends' with a smiling kangaroo on it.
"Do you like the mat? I picked it out!" Jimin said excitedly after seeing her lingering gaze on it.
His eyes seemed to light up and Jennie chuckled at his excitement.
She smiled and nodded. "I love it."
Taehyung took out the key and pushed open the door. He walked in first so he could turn on the light since it was dark.
There was a large mirror at the entrance, allowing Jennie to see herself and the two boys around her. Just staring at herself with them, she didn't feel like she belonged. They were so angelic, and eye catching, the complete opposite of Jennie.
Even little Melanie looked like she belonged with them. The guys were right about one thing, her being dark. But it never really bothered her, and she wasn't going to let it now.
She looked away from the mirror, mentally making a note of where it was so she could avoid it, as bad as that sounded. The entrance led to the large living room. The first thing that stuck out to Jennie was how all of the walls were painted on. It was crazy, and nothing like the white walls she was expecting.
She touched the wall beside her that started with a pastel blue in the right top and faded into a light purple, then a pastel pink at the left bottom. It was an ombre effect, but on a wall, and it worked so well.
"Did you guys paint this?" Jennie stared with wide eyes at the other walls.
Their colors didn't clash, in fact, they lit up the room even more. It was so cool.
"Mhm!" Jimin stated with a smile and looped his arms with Taehyung.
"Wow, this... is amazing." The longer she looked around the more she saw.
It was warm inside and held a comfortable, artistic vibe. It felt like a home, a real one. Not like the place she called her house, where her parents lived. Unlike in this home, she could see the love and family vibes in, and it was beautiful.
She noticed a wall that was completely white but covered with a bunch of canvases. Each painting was completely different from the other, and Jennie saw it as a random idea that might not have fit on the other walls. She walked over to one of the paintings that had splashes of black and grey. It looked random, but it also fit nicely with the white wall.
"God really does pick favorites," she said jokingly as she touched the dry artwork.
Her words held truth, seeing as both boys had been blessed with good looks and amazing talent.
"Melanie did that one," a deep voice said from behind her.
She saw a hand reach up beside her, one with black rings on its fingers, so she knew it was Taehyung. That, and the lack of vanilla florally scent. Taehyung smelled like men's cologne, but one more delicate and not as strong. Something natural, like woodsy and a hint of cinnamon. She couldn't describe it, but it smelled really good to her.
Jennie turned around and instantly shied down after seeing how close she was to Taehyung. She didn't realize that Jimin left the room, probably putting Melanie to her bed.
Although she could admit she had feelings for the pink haired boy, Taehyung was still there, and very much managed to wedge a spot in her heart.
She liked them both. So much that it took her breath away. And she could only feel her breathing becoming shallower when Taehyung stepped closer, effectively backing her into the wall. She felt hyper aware of everything around her, and still, she fell into the trance that was Taehyung Kim.
"You know, Jimin talks about you so much." His eyes roamed around her face. "I just wish it was me you noticed first."
Jennie gulped. Were her feelings for the other boy that obvious? And did Taehyung not realize that she crushed him too? She wasn't going to confirm, nor deny anything.
Taehyung was so tall, unlike Jimin who was maybe a few inches taller than her. Standing up straight, Jennie only reached to his neck. She eyed the necklace he wore, one that she remembered seeing before but she couldn't think of where at the moment. Only how beautiful it looked on the taller, and how smooth his skin looked from how close she stood.
She licked her lips in preparation to say something, but before she could utter a word, the boy in front of her was moved out of her view.
"What do you think you're doing?" Jimin stood there, staring at Taehyung with narrowed eyes.
Jennie wasn't used to seeing such a look on him, and it made her a bit nervous. She lifted from off of the wall and eyed the way both boys were staring at each other. She didn't know what she was expecting, but it most definitely wasn't seeing them wear matching smiles and then turning to face the tense girl.
Jimin held on to Taehyung's arm and stared at Jennie, almost adoringly.
"We have something to tell you," Taehyung said lowly, and Jimin nodded, his pink hair flopping slightly.
Jennie watched the two warily and crossed her arms over her chest. Whatever news was coming to her, she had a feeling it would be an interesting one...
