Chapter Ten - Close To You

The day of the game had come, and Sam had found me in the School Gym. "I thought this was guys only?" He naively questioned, as I had been working hard on the punching bag.

"No, just only guys use it most of the time," I commented, my breathing heavy.

He chuckled, "You really are determined to play." I took a breath, wiping the sweat off my forehead with my wrist.

"I'm an athlete, I have to try," I commented, I knew there was a risk of having my foot crushed again if someone fell on it, though I couldn't bring myself to just lie on the ground.

"You should try and get far down the field, your best chance is to sprint with the ball," Sam commented, though I had already known that.

When the game had started though, I found myself doing little. The guys in our team could barely keep the ball, and I wasn't one to try and tackle. I had been pushed down a couple of times, though the pain was nothing compared to what I had dealt with, I could tell the guys were surprised when I had always gotten back up, though they always forgot I wasn't just like the other glee girls when it came to sport.

It was the second quarter when I got my chance, I had avoided being tackled initially and the ball rolled off. I didn't hesitate and I was already picking it up as Coach Beiste yelled, "Grab the ball!"

I had a few feet on the guys that were chasing me by the time they had realised, and I had run as I had never run before. This was my chance, and I could hear the crowd cheering. I was tackled just as I hit the ball down into the endzone. My stomach jolted, and I knew I was winded, though I had been smiling aggressively through my helmet. It was the feeling I had gotten in soccer when scoring a goal, and the familiar feeling of ecstasy was there.

"You did it Pops!" Finn yelled, pulling me up and bringing me into the hug, which was then followed by the rest of the team. Once we had finished, I had met with Blaine's eyes in the crowds, who were still cheering frantically with Kurt.

Blaine had been waiting outside the girl's locker room door with Kurt as me and the girls headed into it to put our zombie makeup on. He hugged me straight away, Kurt hugging a few of the other girls. "That was epic, I can't believe you scored a touchdown."
