Chapter Twenty - Every Single Night
Following Jean's funeral, Friday had come, and the entire glee club was gossiping about who would win. I was preparing it to be Rachel, though I knew it could have gone either way. Kurt had found me towards the end of lunch when Jesse and Schue were meant to be discussing. He revealed he snuck around the back window and had listened in, before proceeding to tell me what he heard. "I hate to say it, though Jesse found out you only joined the club this year and is pushing for Rachel on terms of experience, Schue's defending you a little bit, he's always favoured Rache though."
I sighed, "I guess I kind of knew it, with Jesse in the picture I never stood a chance."
I was prepared to read the results on the notice board, though all that was there was a statement saying there was an emergency meeting at half three. Rachel had come over with Jesse, who announced, "Guys, it was a tough decision, but it's for the good of the club."
"Although this is deeply personal," Rachel had looked at me, "try not to take it personally."
"Um, you guys might want to read what the list says," Kurt informed then, Rachel and Jesse's faces both dropping when they read what was actually there.
We were sitting in the choir room in silence, and I could tell the anticipation was killing everyone. When Mr Schue finally walked in, Santana broke the tension. "Oh, Mr Schue, thank God you're here to put these trolls out of their misery. Can you just announce my win so that I can get on with teasing the losers?"
"I heard your performance, Santana," Kurt responded, "this is mine and you know it." I assumed they were both joking, as both had been quite aware to me that this was between me and Berry.
"See, Jesse? This is the kind of infighting and 'me first' attitudes that I wanted to avoid." Schue pointed out.
"What you call infighting I call motivation. And this is just the beginning. Once we get to Nationals, I'll have them willing to kill each other for that solo." Jesse said a bit too seriously.
"No," Schue answered. "I've changed my mind. We're going back to what got us here - original songs sung by the entire club. We're a team, and we're best when we work as one."
