Chapter Thirty-Eight - Edge of Glory
We had to at least place this year at Nationals, for once we were spending every hour of our time rehearsing the number. I supposed New York was a pretty distracting location, and although Chicago was a stunning city, it was closer to home and a lot of us had visited before. We got there Friday evening, and as we were getting off the bus Blaine had pulled me to one side.
"So, since it's your birthday on competition day, I got special permission to take you out for a birthday meal tonight, just the two of us from Mr Schue." He winked as we grabbed our bags from the storage unit of the bus.
"How romantic of you," I smiled, I had almost completely forgotten about my birthday with all the Nationals excitement.
"Got get changed and then meet me in the Lobby, the table's at 8." He kissed my cheek before he walked off to join the guys who were being led to their rooms by Mr Schue. I went to join Kurt and the girls with Sue, Miss Pilsbury and Coach Beiste.
I was in a room with Santana, Brittany and Quinn. It wasn't the best since we knew that Santana and Britt would share a bed, despite Sue insisting that each of them split up to sleep with me or Quinn. There wasn't going to be any stopping us. "Chipotle then? Schue's letting us head out to get food and there's one just a few blocks away."
I shook my head, "I have a birthday dinner with Blaine, he's taking me somewhere fancy. Problem is I didn't pack any-" I had been searching through my bag when I found a parcel on the top of my bag. Blaine must have had Kurt snuck it in as I recognised his scrawly writing on the top, my name written. I opened it up, finding a navy dress with silver embroidery on the side.
"Early birthday present?" Quinn teased, coming over to stare at the dress I held up.
"Warbler's got money," Santana nodded, seeming impressed, "that does not look cheap."
"Well, I suppose that solves my outfit problem," I sighed, before beginning to change out of my clothes to change into the dress.
He had been in the lobby, holding a bouquet of flowers and was wearing a suit. All black with a tie. I had loved him in a tie, made a change from his usual bow. "And it fits!"
